I'm wondering how much it covers, and whether or not the price is worth the extra coverage.

And also, I'm planning on switching the default HDD for a SDD that I bought off Newegg. I don't know if that voids the warranty or not. If a problem does occur, couldn't i just replace the SDD for the HDD again and ship it off? Or is there a sticker on the HDD that shows that you removed it?

on average, I would say that your expected (average) year 2 + year 3 repair bill on a new macbook pro will be less than the cost of buying AppleCare.

That said, if something malfunctions, it could easily be 750-1000$ in repair costs. Depends on your risk preferences.

I guess it is like the general insurance argument.

yep. oh and apple made some of the most reliable laptops in the market. yet the applecare coverage are pretty extensive imho. so i guess it's up to individual.

One thing to be aware of is that AppleCare only covers hardware failure. There isn't any sort of accidental damage protection like you would get with some standard warranties (Asus, MSI).

Still, it's something I would consider if you think you're going to sell the system before the plan actually expires. You actually will get some of the money back if you sell it and AppleCare is still valid.

But I think you should right when the warranty is about to expire.

It doesn't matter when you get it, the warranty is the same regardless.

If you didn't get Squaretrade at the time of purchase, I don't think you can add ADH to the squaretrade warranty, in which case I'd go with Apple's.

But if you could, I'd get Squaretrade with ADH so that you have some assurance that even in the case you drop it, you'd have someone to take care of it.

That is correct. To add, ADH can only be added to a Squaretrade warranty on a new item purchased from a retail store. It can't be added on used/refurbished items or those purchased on eBay.

squretrade is good but like most others that offer accidental warranties etc they ONLY cover total repairs up to the original cost of the unit.

Out of our last 7 Mac and Mac Portables we used Apple Care 1x on a hard drive failure.....Purchased Apple Care on eBay in the past, way cheaper. Not sure if Apple cracked down on that??
