    Hey guys,

    Is it possible to manually replace the Macbook's HD with a third party HD? The HD upgrades from Mac are **** expensive, and I'd rather buy a cheaper one and slap it in.

    Can I do this?

    Yes you can...but you'll void the warranty.

    Actually, on the MacBook you can replace it without voiding the warranty. However, on the MacBook Pro, it does void the warranty.

    thats ridiculous!

    as for the thread's question;

    yes you can manually replace the macbook hd; it is located under the battery; and they even has an instruction printed on the case; this can be seen once you remove the battery; they even has the manual on how to remove the hd in the manual.

    apple uses seagate hdd which is very good. i suggest you get one from seagate. though i'm sure different brand wont matter; the macbook doesn't have heat problem near the hd.

    Are the seagates cheaper when you buy them from someone who isn't Mac?

    I cannot find one atm. Apple does have a manual online on how to do it. My advice would be to go to www.apple.com, find a store, or a few stores and call them. Ask them.
