Hi, everyone! I installed iStat, Chrome and Safari and I noticed that Safari usually uses less cpu usage than Chrome but I can't tell for sure. When I (used to) use Chrome for pc, I never rememebered cpu usage to go as high as it did with my mbp; but the cpu in my pc was an AMD dual core @ 3.6 ghz so it's kind of hard to compare.
This kind of leads me to believe that Safari may be better for os x than Chrome but I don't know; is it?

Ask yourself who developed Safari. Then ask yourself who developed OSX. The answer to your optimization question should then be clear.

As for whether or not Safari is "better" than Chrome.....that's all personal preference. I prefer Chrome.

Chrome and Safari have a common root in WebKit. Chrome and Safari both also run on Windows. Google and Apple both have excellent teams that are good at optimizing x86 code, including using vector optimizations. Apple may be a bit better at using the GPU for certain kinds of acceleration. In general, I expect some things to be better in one and other things to be better than the other.

    BTW, I use Firefox.

Never would have guessed that. :D

I still prefer safari on Mac but I do test out chrome and FF once in a while just to be sure they can't convert me. ;)

Another view point....(Flash aside) does it really matter how much CPU usage a BROWSER requires? Regardless its not gonna make a but a few minutes difference to your battery life. And unless you're heavily multi-tasking, who cares if your CPU is wasting cycles? It's not like your CPU is gonna need a tune-up sooner, LOL ;)

And BTW, I use Firefox too :) I just didn't like the Safari interface, tried Chrome for about 5 minutes so I don't have a good opinion of it yet.
