I am looking to purchase a notebook soon and I am sitting on the fence as to whether or not to go with Mac or Windows notebook.

I have a iBook G4 that I love a lot, but it used by the family.

I know that Leopard is coming in October, but I don't know if I can wait that long since I need a my own notebook for my work needs.

For those who used Leopard, it is worth waiting for?

Is there that much of an improvement over Tiger?

Well, you don't have to wait for Leopard, you can get a MacBook now. Leopard only costs $129 for a full version (cheaper than Microsoft Office Student Edition!).

I will definitely get Leopard. It is an improvement so far, but its improvements aren't going to be used by everyone, so it differs. Like they're adding a lot to iChat, but I don't use iChat, so its not going to impact my decision.

Yeah if you like OSX just get a laptop now if you need it and upgrade to leopard when it comes out. Leopard looks like a decent release.

Hopefully Apple will not release any new hardware between now and then? :p

    Oh my ... CodeMonkeyX,

Personally, I hope and pray that Apple release some good hardware before Leopard is out .. I am hoping for MB with Santa Rosa, new iMac, and yes new MBP (a whole redesign) ....

As for Leopard, it is going to be a 64bit OS, as far as I've heard, and seeing that all the new Apples are 64bit CPU I would say it is a step in the right direction.

However, to wait - or not to wait - is all up to how badly one needs her / his own machine right NOW ... personally, I am holding off until I can get all 64bit system, OS, and applications and then make the jump ...

Is Leopard worth waiting for? No. It will only be $129, $69 for students, and it will run great on any of the current Macs. So if you need/want your notebook now, get it and upgrade to Leopard when it releases.

Now, you may want to try to hold out for new hardware, but there is no indication that is going to come soon. The only new hardware that I think is imminent are new iMacs. Everything else is pretty fresh and not likely due for an upgrade soon.

well you aren't going to get your redesigned mbp- they were just updated.

you might see a new macbook, because that upgrade was sort of like a holdover...

iMac is the most likely- its been unrevised for longer than the other two machines.

Hi RZetlin, since no one has asked you I am curious as to what is it that's keeping you on the fence between buy a Windows PC or an Apple Macintosh? I am curious since you are already a Mac user what is that's making you consider a Windows machine? Maybe we can help you with this part. :)

All rumour sources are pointing at a late July-early August iMac update. They're expecting a radical redesign and spec upgrade as well.

I don't think we will see a MacBook upgrade because now there is a greater difference between them and the MacBook Pro. Apple likes to keep it like that.
