If you click the WiFi in the menu bar and click it. At the bottom there is the option to go into wireless preferences. Under AirPort there is a more detailed signal strength. There is no way I know of in OS X or Windows to show the real speed of your wireless connection. It will show what it is capable of, but actual speed I believe needs to be timed manually.
