Is it possible that intels just do not go well with macs? I hear so many complaints about the intel macs. And yet I don't hear problems occuring with PC's. Whats up with this. I think the lesson is not to buy the early weeks of Apple products. If I get an imac or macbook, Im surely going to get a week 40 on.

The lesson would be not to buy the very first batch of entirely new Apple products. lol. But my advice is just buy one and forget it. Even though they had Problems, Apple IS fixing them.

A lot of the complaints have been people repeating what other people say. Others were the result of bad logic boards in the first Intel Mac batch. But do Intel processors do well in Macs? Heck yes!!! The resurgence of the Mac platform this year is due almost totally to the massive performance jump in the hardware gained thru Intel.

    Yeah... they do insanely well.
Yes, they do get hot, but you know... it's an intel, they're supposed to you know... start fires and such. :p
Seriously though, I've never owned an intel that doesn't get blazing hot. The MBP does get hot when under full load, but it's hard to get under full load and you can still keep it on your legs. Now.. if it's under full load AND charging, I wouldn't keep it in my lap :p
Most other complaints have been fixed, such as the yellowing of the case.
The random shut down issue is being addressed, but not sure if it's fixed yet.

yeah, all 15" and under laptop with intel core duo chip seems to be quite warm, even during idle, i found that the MB is cooler than the MBP, for some reason the 17" MBP is blazing hot, now that can't be right... i've checked with similary spec'ed notebook, (VAIO AR, QOSMIO) and they are rather cool compared to the MBP, doubly true for the QOSMIO (probably due to thick thus thermal efficient case). a 17" that is that hot during idle gonna cause some trouble i'd say, apple should have done better, i'd rather have a slightly thicker notebook rather than a hot one that would cause damage/discomfort to me and my property (desk, notebook itself) c'mon apple, u can done better than that, size is not everything, if the technology don't allow it; don't push it! very, VERY beautiful laptop though.

This is not germane to laptops, but anything really. Never buy version 1.0 of anything: laptop, cars software, TV, etc. Version 1.0 they are still working out the kinks. Very rarely is the nail hit on the head.

Uhh... none of them get warm on idle. Mine only gets hot on full load. And not much more so than any other Core duo unit. Obviously the thicker ones would get hot slower, but thats to be expected. I myself would rather have a thinner notebook thats lighter than a thick ass notebook that is a bit cooler. Most of the thicker notebooks have exhaust fans on the bottom so you still get the hot air on your legs/desk.

Only the first release of the MBP were hot during idle, and that was fixed a while back. The MBP is still a hell of a lot cooler than my Sager which was more than 2x the MBP thickness.

Yeah, all the apple stores probably have old logic boards in htem which means they will run hot, pretty much no matter what. From everything I've read, the 17 and 15 MBP run about same temps. The 17" has the vid card clocked normally, which means more heat, but more space to disperse the heat.

Yeah, i got the MBP (I should update my profile). But honestly, you won't really find any DTR's that run hot. Not only that, I doubt many of them can push 3.5-4 hours battery life (granted thats writing notes and surfing on the internet with fairly low brightness on monitor).
But yeah, also think that the store models are on all the time and do get subjected to more abuse. Oh! the poor laptops!

One thing that nobody seems to realize is that the MBP case is made out of metal, and what is one thing that metal is really, really good at? Transferring heat. The case is part of the cooling system, chill out and live with it (no pun intended)
