This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    ...couldn't I just boot camp Linux Ubuntu and use WINE to run any windows only applications I may have? If it is possible, gosh, it sure beats paying for windows :D

    You can use Crossover, but it's not free. And either way, Wine (and thus Crossover) does not ensure 100% compatibility. Most Windows programs still won't work well or at all. It's no substitute for Windows.

    well, yea. but the programs I would use are paint.net and pivot stickfigure animator, so no biggie.

    If you already knew the answer, why ask the question?

    You can run Wine in OS X as well through X11.

    you won't get the same level of compatability as with windows.

    also, at that point, you might as well just run wine within os x. its unix.

    curious- do you happen to be a student (have a .edu email address)?
