    Installed New Momentus XT Segate...on a MBP 15...but the same is not being detected

    I installed a new momentus XT and inserted the snow leopard osx disc to install the os...but it wont detect the drive. Any help would be appreciated.Thanks

    It might just need to be formatted so it can be seen. Install the original drive back in your mac. If you can attach the new drive externally (if you have an external case) via usb. Download Carbon Copy Cloner here (its free)
    Carbon Copy Cloner - Home
    Format the new drive with Disk utility. Then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your existing drive onto the new drive. Then swap them. Let us know how it goes.....

    When you boot off the Snow Leopard disc... go like you are starting the install, then go to the top menu and select to run Disk Utility... go in there and see if it sees the disk, and format it as Mac OS Extended (journaled) then continue the install...

    So were you able to get the drive formatted and set up? I've got a Momentus XT in my 17" now, and other than the occasional vibration noise when I move the machine, I've had no problems with it
