Have to agree the Invisible Shield is the way to go.
I have the Ncase on my 17" MBP and it was a bit of letdown, I was unable to push my screen past 90 degrees due to the way the screen cover would bring up in the base cover. The fit and finish is great, the fit is really well but the screen just dorve me nuts.

Whent with the invisible Shield. Highly recommend it, Have them on my 15" unibody, 17" MBP iphone and wife and son's touches.

i think they fixed the screen angle issue

and the problem with the invisible shield is that it doesnt protect the macbook pro nicks and dents.. and i already got one already :(

I have the Speck which I have been very happy with it. The case just snaps right on. You have to make sure that whatever case you get fits your specific Macbook Pro. I made the mistake of buying the case for the old MBP.

But the damage/scuff marks from dirt getting under the case is ok?

    ?

this is easily solved by taking the case out and wiping it clean..
but if someone is really anal about it: invisible shield + the hard shell

Atleast once a week.....more often potentially. I had a speck case and having to take it off every week is a PITA.

Hard shell won't fit after you put an Invisible shield on.

The previous speck cases were horrible for collecting dirt. The newer ones thats that incase designed seemed to be a lot better, and they looked a lot better then the speck ones at the time. (this is previous gen mbp im talking about)

Personally, I've left speck and moved to incase, I think they took the initiative and created a better product then speck. Speck then copied them in my mind. Either way, I havn't actually seen the new ones so maybe one is better then the other.

And that "weird gap" youre talking about by the ir port, that would be there so that the ir port can actually receive properly. I would think that both of them would have it open, otherwise the speck one might not be as sensitive when using the remote further from the mac, since it would be covered up. Though I doubt that they would actually cover it up, but maybe they did.

If you go into an apple store, they'll let you try on the cases, and you should be able to see which one you like more of the two.

like, i cant find the appropriate pictures, but looking at some videos, the gap in the speck case is only around the "slit" on the mbp, while the incase one is a lot bigger and we can even see the aluminum

I like the incase one better, because of the way they designed around the IR port, and because it seems that it doesn't collect as much stuff under the casing compared to the speck.

what do u mean the way they designed the IR port? the speck also has a hole, but it is only around the IR port.. while the incase one has a larger hole and we can even see the aluminum.. whereas in the speck u dont

I was trying to say that I like the larger hole of the incase design better than the speck. Just personal opinion. ;)

I have a Speck case on my 17" MBP. Love it, protects it quite nicely.

I have an incase on my previous gen. mbp. The fit is a lot better than the speck and i dust doesn't seem to get in it.

The hard cases are designed to fit on the device without anything extra. The Invisible Shield isn't that thick, but thick enough that a hard case would not fit overtop.

The incase I have has little ventilation holes on the bottom back half which provides adequate heat dissipation. It's also cooler to put on your lap.

yes, they do raise up the heat a little. So yea, it runs a little hotter then without it.

correct me if i'm wrong - but dosn't the incase have a "rubbery" coating vs the speck which is just smooth plastic?

Has anyone confirmed the lid movement with either casing?

Yeah, you're right. However, speck has two type of products:
    1. Speck See Thru. This one has a plastic look and feel to it.
    2. Speck See Thru Satin. This one has a more rubbery texture to it. I own the satin one. It's a great protection to my MB 13" (early 2009).

As for the lid movement, I have no problems whatsoever. The MB opens perfectly, however it can only be opened up to around 120 - 130 degrees. But that's more than enough for me.

    Hope this helps.

Minor derail: If you get the invisible shield, is it "rubbery" or tacky enough that it's difficult to put an MBP in/out of an Incase soft case?

I use the soft case for added protection when I travel (yay airports >.>), but I'd like something like this to minimize scratches. However, if it becomes a pain to get the MBP into or out of the case, I may not get it. I know the version for the iPhone has a rubbery/tacky feel to help increase grip, so I'm assuming something similar for an MBP.

Your lap may be cooler, but your cpu is burning inside.

This is never a positive sacrifice.
