My 2008 MacBook Pro has been a great laptop (except for the typical DVD player fail)... I'm ready for some 3.33GHz hyperthreading dual core 8GB ram 256GB SSD goodness.
Bring it.
-
-
lol.. $5000? or more?
-
I think he means new macs. I think they will be sweet.
-
-
meh.. SSD won't happen for sure at that cost? xD.. lol
-
"2" days more to go mate..Be patient.
-
They are going to update in 2 days? I didn't know that, What did I miss?
-
In my opinion though, the only major difference I see between C2D and i5 mobile is ... 4 threads as opposed to 2. Benchmarks don't make these mobile i5 processors appear to be special but here's hoping real life experience will say otherwise. -
I just had an i7 720QM and really, that's a pretty hot power sucking chip for a laptop.
I think one of the options Apple is rumored to be looking at is an i7 dual core with pretty high clock speeds. I'm at 2.4GHz now, so, anything over 3GHz would be great. -
-
-
the i3 and i5 chips are also 32nm, so, they should be good with heat and power as well.
Not sure about the i7 dual core, that might still be 45nm. -
Yep, I'm ready too
i7 dual core's are actually 35W and below, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_i7 -
-
I think Apple's gonna stick the i5 in the 15 inch, i3 in 13 inch models, and i7 in the 17 inchmodels. It would be smart of them, because then the price difference between the models would finally be understandable.
-
If Apple can profit from putting an i5 in the 13" model why shouldn't they? Oh right, your purchase of a 15"/17" model must be justified. -
13" inch will probably get the i3. A guess of course.
It's a price point game and now apple has real options to properly stratify their line up. It's not shafting the 13". Apple always creates a maddening array of product options that manage to peeve everyone off over something or another.
13" i3
15" i5
17" i7 -
The new line up will be all i3 i5 i7.
As far as Tuesday coming and going... stores are FULL of PC laptops with i3 and i5 CPUs and even i7 quads. They are pretty much straight late at this point... but then again, they are all about the iGadget at this point, and less about computers. -
The i3 processor aint that good so I don't think the 13 inch will get it.
-
See how Apple do you? -
If I were to get a 15" laptop it would most definitely be a PC. -
Yes indeed, I'm ready too!
-
I'm ready too. (Ignore the sig and avatar...) If they refresh a MBP 13 with iX processors, my Eee PC will be donated!
-
MBP 13 should get at least a Core I5, IMO. Otherwise it is pretty lame.
It is understandable if macbook (not pro) get core I3.
-
Gawd I can't wait for the MacBook Pro announcements tomorrow.
-
Anybody know when this announcement is supposed to happen (if it's happening today?)
-
Cupertino Clowns... get with it. -
*Shock* They didn't update. *Shock*
-
Lol. You guys are too hopeful. That's the same hope and anticipation that destroyed the ipad.
-
Hmph....Guess I will be buying that new Asus laptop.
A shame, I was going to give the refresh a chance. -
lol. Apple is losing customers with each passing Tuesday.
c'mon, Apple. get it together. -
Yeah, I've heard all about the "Tuesday" rule and the refresh cycle mumbo jumbo, and let's not forget the placeholder sku's at Best Buy... But honestly, Apple has to be chuckling at the fools who come up with these predictions.
Now that the "Golden Tuesday" has passed without any news, can we finally say that there is no way we can predict when Apple is going to announce ANYTHING?
Please? -
I think they are releasing new MacBooks... next Tuesday! lol
-
-
-
I've actually lost interest in buying one (thankfully) and I reassessed my needs.
I noticed I just needed a desktop and an ultraportable laptop for the occasional travel.
I was actually considering the iMac 27" for the desktop but those screen issues, alongside the fact that Dell offered me a way better deal, drove me away. -
^ another lost sale for Apple. the longer it takes them to launch, the more people they'll lose.
-
-
Just like any product, if someone really wants a Mac, they'll wait for it. Dell has customers waiting months for some of their computers to be built. Some will wait others will move on.

So I talked with my buddy, who works at Apple, he gave me the scoop on the new macbooks. Now I'm not supposed to tell a lot of people about this so you didn't hear it from me. He said the new macbooks are coming out a week from next Tuesday, and boy are the specs surprising. Apple apparently plans to re-market the macbooks as the ultimate mobile computing platform. The new macbooks sport 15 hour battery life, and run ARM cpus. The 13inch macbooks will run the new "custom" silicon 1.6GHz A5 chip, and the 15 and 17inch macbooks will run the 2.6Ghz A6 chip with an optional 3.2Ghz A6 pro. All new macbooks are running a variant of the iPhone OS (similar to the iPad), however will support multitasking of pre-approved apps. I asked about flash support and he said that it will likely be available Q4 2010, after HTML 5.0 doesn't take off. The macbooks are also going to be super slim, I couldn't get any solid dems out of him but he said at least half as thick as the current ones. Because of the slim profile, they will not include optical drives, however they are compatible with the macbook air external drive, so this is more of a feature. Another revolutionary aspect is that the keyboard is being replaced with an innovative "iBoard." This expands on the track pad and each key is essentially a flat touch screen, so iPhone and iPod touch users will feel right at home here. I asked him if the OS was a copy of the ipad, he told me it is, only with some added features to take advantage of the "screaming" A core cpus, like the background of the spring board will just be the iTunes homepage, rather than just black, and you can even customize your color scheme. I said boy that's really futuristic and he told me that the prices would actually be lowered $200 on all models. Sounds interesting.

Lulz.. -
Yeah...
If you were actually a supporter of their computers, you'd be able to realize that waiting a few more weeks to spend (in most cases) upwards of $2000+, is going to be seem like it was a much better idea in 2-3 years than impulse buying something for a bit cheaper. -
-
totally agree with Stunner...
I'm still placing my bet on March 9th.. -
-

-
I think it's actually funny what Xhibit wrote. Why is everyone bashing him?
I think it's clever how he sarcastically suggested that Apple will bound all its products to the already closed iPhone OS and this would make sense if they were to use their own silicon for all their products. -
I needed a new computer and wanted it to be a MBP. However, they weren't readily available. Upon reassessing my needs, I realized a desktop (alongside a very portable laptop) would suffice as I do not travel often.
I was then going to buy the iMac 27" but decided against it because of the rampant issues with the screen. Apple's decision to delay the MBP had nothing to do with my decision to not buy the iMac.
The only thing Apple's delay caused, was me reassessing what I really needed in a computer.
As for the "much better idea", here's what Dell got me for $1,434.
Intel Core i7-860 processor(8MB Cache, 2.80GHz)
8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz-4x2GB
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5
Serial ATA II RAID 0 With Dual 1TB Hard Drives
Blu-ray 6X BD-R, DVD+/-RW Drive and 16X DVD+/-RW w/double layer write capability
23.0" Dell ST2310 Full HD Monitor with VGA cable (supplied), 23.0" viewable image size
I'm not here to start an argument but please don't talk down to me like I don't know how to make smart decisions. I have never used a Mac and since I was in the market for a new computer I thought I would give it a try. It just so happened to be a bad time.
I am still looking to replace my laptop however, and I know Apple's MBP line is known to be reliable ... So hopefully by the time I need to travel the new MBPs will be available for purchase. -
I'm ready!
