I got Macbook Air in a few days ago. I'm surprise this forum doesn't have a lounge for a specific Macbook. I am still looking for the best forum for Macbook Air, so you can PM me the link.

I notice it has a lot of small softwares running, so can you tell me which programs I can turn off to conserve the power?

This Macbook has a lot of heat on the left side. I am still wondering if there's a way to cool it down without buying a cool pad.

My main purpose to use it for the same reason to use it as a netbook. I use it for working on school essays between the classroom, presentation, web browsing and watching a streaming video. Of course, I'm not multitasking it like I would to a powerful PC.

Does it have antivirus? My biggest surprise is the Firewall got turned off when I first turned on the OS. I am still puzzling if there's an antivirus software installed in this PC. I am still not sure if I need to buy one.

By the way, my Macbook is 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3, 120gb SATA drive and GeForce 9400M. Is there a nickname or something for it?

    Thanks

MacRumors.com or MacNN.com both great Mac site. Most Mac's don't have any anti-virus but here is some available. The firewall is always off by default. OS X by default is not setup for security.

I saw the forums for macbook air and they're kind of quiet. I guess that means there's no problem with MBA. To be honest with you, this macbook feels a lot cooler than I expected.

If I plan to use this macbook air for hours and hours, then I'll probably buy the cool pad. I don't think it will happen, anyway.

Well the MBA have been out for a while with no revisions. So any issues would be well known.

I have the Air (rev C.) with Snow Leopard and there are no issues to speak of. It does get warm on the upper left top when viewing flash stuff. I've not had any hangs or anything. I use the Air for creating MS Office docs and doing Internet research. I love it.

I share the exact same reason. Wow, this notebook is still nearly perfect. I love it.

You can download this program called SMC Fancontrol. You can change the fan speed. Even after an intense session of Starcraft 2 the temperature of my computer is around 67 degrees celsius. However that is on the MBP 15, so I don't know about the air, it is smaller.

I think SMC fancontrol might reduce battery life though because if the fans are on that requires more energy.

Does that support by Apple? I wouldn't like to download a freeware with the increased chance to get a virus.

Uh I don't know if it has support by apple but if you download it off the official developer site I would say there is a 0 chance that you can actually get a virus to be honest.

It is a widely known program, you can find it on many MAC sites I think.

Just because its a freeware doesn't mean your getting a virus. Many paid programs come with virus like material ~ take many video game copy protection material.

You can check around and do research about it if you want. It might be on the apple website, I think steer mouse a mouse driver thing is there.
