went to see the apple macbooks today

omg they are beautiful.. but the thing that impressed me most was a 24" screen..that I late discovered was an iMac.. it must be the most beautiful machine i have ever laid my eyes on

i m utterly convined.. they could have a hamster insider running at 2 cycles per hour.. i m getting one as soon as i can afford it.. then a Macbook Pro (which is also the nicest laptop i have ever seen) to accompany it

I always thought the sony vaios were sexy, but this is the real deal

    Apple, I bow before you

    I'm in love

Yeah, the 24" iMac is pretty compelling. I'm having second thoughts on my MBP and am considering the 24".

You guys know that most of the iMacs are actually running laptop boards, right? They just don't have the power saving features enabled. Dunno if that's the case on the 24" model but most of the previous generations have all been like that.

I want one too! An iMac I mean. However, I don't like the idea of a unit where it's either difficult or impossible to do upgrades. I also don't like permanently attached monitors. Not that it would be a big deal with the 24", cause I doubt I'd ever replace it... but the 19" model... I dunno.
Though, in all honestly, I'd go with a Mac Pro if they offered a more gamer centric unit. I'd love to use it as a pro workstation that also had a seperate HD for windows that I could game on! Which I want SLI on the mobo. Though, nowadays, I'm not much of a heavy gamer, so I'd probably just drop $400 on a hefty video card.
Blah, can't wait to get a job!

hollownail, just like you, I wish Apple's computers could be a little more gamer-friendly... :(

They upgraded to iMac's? I would have thought a school would upgrade to macmini's. You know, that way if they need to replace something, they can change just the monitor or unit instead of the whole thing. But thats cool though. Which size did they go with?

I know our CS department bought some mac mini's a while back for our lab, but the whole thing was poorly implemented, and the netboot doens't work right. I'd like to see them get rid of those and the dell towers we have in there when they do the upgrades next year and just put in Mac Pro's in their place.

I go to a university and half of the computer in the computer labs are Macs and half are Windows. Some on the engineering campus have Linux installed, too. They used to have the older iMacs with the round base, and these new ones just hit this semester. I'm pretty sure they are the 20" option.

I'm not very familiar with Apple computers. This is the first time I've heard of Mac Minis. From Google images they look pretty good. IMHO Apples have a much better build quality and appearance, it's just that I've grown up around Windows PCs and am much more familiar with those.

Is the X1600 you have the highest option in terms of GPU?
