Hey guys, so here's my situation.

I'm off to the US in a couple of weeks and I'll buy the Apple Care, I can still buy it until October (October '08 was my original date of purchase). I have these problems with my computer:

    - DVD drive does not write anymore. Hardware failure message. Reads fine though.

    - Screen flickers randomly when on "Better Battery Life" setting. I'm hoping this is not another nVidia issue, since my old '07 MBP (8600M GT) was fixed once already.

    - When I pick my computer up, even when it's shut down, I hear this PLIK-PLOK sound coming out of the area where the DVD drive is.
If I shake the computer about, the sound goes off again. Maybe something's loose in there? It doesn't sound like bits and pieces being loose inside though.... it's just that sound.

    - The bottom part of the hinge (the black plastic part) feels kind of loose when I press my finger against it. It seems as it's not even around the metal part. The hinge itself is fine and nothing's wrong with it, just the plastic part that covers it feels weird.

I'm not one to just throw my computers around. I like to think I take good care of my computers.

What do you guys think, will the Apple Care handle all these problems for me?

    Cheers! :)

well a plik plok type sound can be pretty normal from the hard drive.. if the motion sensor detects a problem, like shaking it about, it quickly parks the drive so it doesnt get damaged, which can make a rather noticeable noise like that.

Apple should just give you a new MBP. If you fix them 1 at a time you will certainly get a new one lol.

That's what I figured as well, but on my old Santa Rosa MBP, the sound is not there, and that has a head-parking HDD as well...

If you'd like to save the $$ on AppleCare just carry your laptop into the Genius Bar at an Apple Store... they should fix your hardware problems under the original 1 year warranty.

Yeah, I know, but I still want to get the AppleCare so I'll be set for another 2 years.

I will probably buy the new Macbook Pro, when they come out (maybe next holiday season, 2010) but until then I want to be covered.

Also works great for resale value when you have 2 years of AppleCare still left...

yes, these should be repaired. may be you could make multiple trips to the apple store as suggested above. you may get a new mac and get a better resale value.

Yeah, but if I make multiple trips to the Apple Store and complain about, say, the screen, won't they notice the DVD drive isn't writing?

Don't they do complete systems checks?

    edit:
Because if they don't, I can go every week and just present each of the problems individually, and at the last one complain like hell. There's always a problem with this mac!! I want a new one!!! :D
