So... some how an anti-mac fanboy just sold his PCs and got two macbooks.

    1. How the heck did that happen?
    2. What are the little tricks to know for osx?
    3. How the heck did that happen?

I would probably buy a Macbook if they weren't so expensive.

macbook #1 was just to have a macbook

macbook #2 was penance for being an anti-mac fanboy (which there are more of than mac fanboys these days; it is super-trendy to bash apple just for kicks)

Congrats Aan! Sure, it's not exactly the best performing machine, but I bet you see the bang for the buck in the build quality and great customer support from Apple. :D Glad to see you using W7 too, because it runs very well on the Mac. Best OS in the world with the sexiest lappy in the world=win. :)

I'm sure some of the Mac guys will give you the *tips and tricks* for OS X. ;)

The OP comes here and says that he bought a Mac and asks for tips and tricks, then the thread is slowly going into the direction of "you could have done better with a PC". How typical!

Sure not what I said. :) He'll love his Mac.
That's what I've noticed about Mac users...they all love them :D

I wasn't referring to your posts

You're right. I've gone through many laptops and MBP is my favorite so far by a huge margin!

In terms of performance, it's the best for MY needs. Just as one example, for some of us, having to go from lecture to lecture for all day on campus without carrying a charger is more important than having an i7 CPU or the best GPU. I can give many more examples on what defines the best performing laptop for MY needs, and not somebody's assumption based on a spec sheet.

Correct, but not because of the lesser featured-riched Windows7, it's always due to the stellar experience from the full featured Mac OS X. :p

Hah, I can relate. Still like Win7, but SL on the MBP is growing on me.

WHy did you get 2? You're the one who bought the Macbook in the marketplace right?

I guess getting 2 of them is a good way to enter the Mac world lol...

One is for me and the other for my sister :p.

But this will be interesting, the last small laptop I had was my dell m1330, which I really enjoyed. The only issue was the screen resolution, which is the same as the mac. So i'm not looking forward to that. Other than that though, this will be a big shift, form wise too, coming from my hulk of a gateway to the measly little macbook.

That being said, I do know why I actually switched and I'll outline the reasons here:
    1. I have never owned a Mac before (other than my apple II).
    - I have owned every mainstreme and some not laptop manufacture, and every size, spare a netbook and a 20.1 in laptop. So, i should check out macs, no?
    2. Battery life.
    - The battery life is stellar, and it is good for when I am on the go.
    3. Size
    - This is irrelevent if it's a mac vs pc but what ever (plus macs are pcs xD)
    4. All the cool kids have them.
    - As much as I hate to admit it.... All the 'cool' and 'trendy' kids have macs. What kind of a photograpger/graphic designer/guy who works for a fashion magazine owns a Gateway? None, now that I sold mine xD

Also, as a side note, chances are I'm going to get bored and will eventually have a 15.4 in MBP. But hey, the macbook is a good starting mac! xD

My take on it is that the 13 inch Macs are a ripoff considering there are better and cheaper alternatives. However, the 15-inch and 17-inch macbooks were simply the best notebooks (if you can overlook the operating system) of 2009 (more so in the case of the 15 inch). What's funny is that they shouldn't have been. The PC world for some reason couldn't realize that the hybrid graphics in 15-17 inch notebooks is very marketable and that battery life, size (the 17 MBP doesn't feel huge at all), and yes, aesthetics is important to the consumer. But whatever, I think 2010 will be the year of the PC, lol.

You're comparing Macs to Windows PCs. Not really an accurate comparison. There are *NO* better or cheaper alternatives to the 13" MBP which run OS X.

I could care less what the notebook itself looks like as long its fast and doesn't get hot,mac books get hot,and you're paying mostly for something that looks pretty and the OSX that comes with it.

Well of course and Apple is a bad value.
    I'm aware of that :p

For what I spent on these I could have gotten very nice PCs, but I wanted to try out a mac :D

P.S. Thoughts on apple care from ebay? it's all legit?
