So 512 it is. Have you seen how hard it is to disassemble a mac mini? I know I don't have the guts to do it yet and I can't trust anyone to do it neither.

    Wow! Thanks for that video.
What a pain in the ass that would be to upgrade a mac mini. But for $500 to get a mac, they're not bad. Very good to buy if you want to setup a test grid computing network or parallel processing.
But you would think they would make it a bit easier to take apart.

Well, I guess that's what happens when you get a computer that's even smaller than a laptop....

    Three letters....O-M-G

and I thought swapping a hard drive on the macbook pro was complicated.

OK, I think I'm going in. After testing out the mini for a couple of days now, I feel 1GB is a minimum for me. I'm going to do it this weekend if I find a 512 mac mini ram in the local mac shop. WISH ME LUCK

I don't think Macs are really meant to be easily upgraded. I have never heard of a Mac that is well made for upgrades. It's not Apple's fault, since their products are really good looking, you can't get everything. The form factor on the Mini is very small, so that makes it all the harder.

That's a really nice computer for those of us who are looking for something really small. FYI, you can upgrade the mini to higher RAM when you order it.

For a $500 machine I would risk it. Good luck!

I don't understand what the fuss is about, but I've also built several PCs. It looks fairly easy and straight forward. Most of the time taken was to be extra cautious and explain everything (6 minutes). I didn't see the hard drive install but this looks easy to me also.I guess if someone has never been inside a computer before this could seem intimidating. Just remember to take your time when prying those clips back enough to pop the bottom cover, and be careful about static electricity. I.E. don't rub your feet on carpet while wearing a wool sweater prior to opening your macmini. Touching bare metal, like an iron radiator, or something similarly grounded helps. I've never had a static discharge in all my previous work.
