    Readers of my previous threads will know the back story to this, I have been weighing up whether to upgrade my MB from 2 -3 gb and considering the whole matched vs un-matched thing.

    Anyway it arrived today and I have done some initial tests (all photoshop and lightroom based) I did the same ones before I upgraded. These are of course not proper bench tests but considering that I struggled to find info from anybody who had actually upgraded their ram (plenty of theoretical opinion) I thought this may interest some. Results below:

    2 GB ++ 4GB

    Photoshop restart (1st time) 19.47s++ 18s
    Photoshop restart subsequent 5.26s++ 4s
    PS Action 1 1:44++ 1:37
    PS Action 2 59s ++ 50s
    Lightroom Export 1:21 ++ 1:21

    Not as great as I was expecting. Maybe I'll see bigger gains if I have more than one program open

    i think thats a pretty significant gain considering all you did was add ram and you were only running one program.

    obviously having multiple programs running will push the benefit even further.

    also, get istat pro and you can see exactly how much is wired up.

    yes and it will also be useful for running parallels. I was maybe expecting more and the lightroom export not improving at all surprised me.

    At least it works though, the module that I took out was covered in a dry glue like residue and I was worried that it would not seat properly.

    Perhaps you could try a game through Parallels do truly see if there is a benefit between 2GB or 3GB. I myself am looking to getting a Macbook and upgrading to 3GB. Just curious, where did you get your RAM?

    I am considering just purchasing an extra 2gb stick and have a total of 2.5gb. Maybe use 1gb for a vm and 1.5 for mac.

    Obviously, I have missed something (in particular, I have not read the earlier threads)...

    Wasn't the MB memory supposed to be upgradeable up to 2GB only? :confused:

    Curious to know, G.

    The original Core Duo MacBooks could only support 2 GB of RAM, but the Core 2 Duo MacBooks can support up to 3 GB of RAM. The MacBook Pros can support up to 4 GB of RAM.
