I thought I was getting a glossy screen (MBP). What to do?

I ordered the MBP form amazon yesterday and it will arrive on Thursday. Now, I thought I was getting a glossy screen because I thought that was the default screen included, that's also based on the fact that almost all laptops today come with a glossy screen.
I contacted amazon and they tell me that my (MBP) order has the non-glossy screen.
I used amazon because they had a $150 online rebate (which expired today).
    I paid $2499+$19(2day shipping).
I could have used apple, but they don't have the rebate.

I'm not sure what to do now. I was at the Apple store and looked at the matte and glossy screens, but didn't pay that much attention since glossy was my choice...but I was surprised at how good the matte screen looked like.
I don't work at an office and I'm typing on a glossy screen laptop right now, glare doesn't bother me.
The problem is I might not even be here when the rebate check arrives since I'm leaving for Europe in mid December.

Now I know I'm asking a question that only I could answer and I also know that there are many posts on the matte vs. glossy screen...still, I need the help deciding If I want to keep the matte screen or not. I'm interested in opinions that are strictly SR MBP and matte/glossy in general. Is the glossy on that more vibrant and more enjoyable for movies and games, for example?

I think if you don't like your matte screen you could just 'glossify' it ith some clear lacquer...win-win situation!

I don't regret getting a matte screen. It actually seems super-vibrant in comparison to my brother's dell with a glossy screen.

No. How is this helping? Glossy screens bring out the colors better, but also create glare, so it's completely up to you.

I would say the same as I always say...if you've tried out glossy and like it, go right ahead and get it. I prefer glossy myself, and the reflections don't annoy me. However, if you seriously cannot decide between the two, I would say get a matte screen, as you can hate glossy screens for their reflections, but there's nothing to hate matte screens for (what, lack of reflections? :p), other than say better colours on the glossy screen.

I like them both. I'd think you'd get used to either one after a day or two.

I'm not sure if you meant it as a joke or if there is such a product.
    --------------
The thing is, I will be in Europe for one year and I don't think I will get a TV, which means I will be using the MBP constantly and watching a lot of movies/games - it has to replace a TV and other entertainment which one takes for granted in a regular home...this is all I will be staring at a daily basis, so it has to look good.

I'm typing on a dell with a glossy screen :)

I was totally joking, but that's pretty slick what you just found. I wonder if it actually works or if it's just silly.

I think you should get which one you want. If you're not happy, get in touch with them and do whatever you can to get them to change your order. What type of screen I like (matte, if it matters) shouldn't impact your decision - it's what you like. And it seems as though you like glossy, so you should get glossy. Good luck!

Unfortunately amazon don't even sell the MBP with a glossy screen, so I can't exchange it. My other option now is to buy it from Apple, but I won't have the $150 rebate.
I take it you have the matte screen...would you say it looks dimmer or less vibrant than a glossy MBP?
My glossy Dell screen makes things appear as if graphics/icons were floating in 3D space, just slightly so.

I cannot tell you in words how happy i am with my matte screen.

I seriously would never change it for a glossy. It is amazing.

I've got a glossy screen on a Macbook because I had no choice and really like it. However I would get the matte screen if I got the MBP (was seriously considering it) and think you will be more than satisfied with it. Can't really go wrong with either. Just be sure to calibrate it when you get it.

    Thanks for you replies!
The MBP arrived today instead of tomorrow. I' m really tempted to open it, but...
I was at the apple store on Saturday with no real intention on comparing the glossy to a matte screen, but I did compare the MBP 17" matte and the 15" glossy and found myself surprised that I found the matte to look good. Today I was at my college bookstore where thye have a MB and a MBP sitting side by side, the MB had the glossy and the MBP had the matte screen. When comparing both, I found the matte to look dimmer and less vibrant and thought immediately that the glossy looked better...but the more I looked at them, the glossy started to look slightly unreal while the matte started to look a little more classy and pleasing - and that's not good since I want to be completely convinced or I'll always will be second guessing myself.

In the end I've decided to send it back and get the glossy from Apple - it's just easiest.

for just working at home I prefer the glossy screen. However if the machine gets used a lot more then just home IE: School, work, outdoor etc then you might be better off with a matte screen.

I wonder if you could walk into a Apple dealer like best buy and compusa and get them to replace your matte screen for a glossy one if you asked them nicely :p

The more expensive route is paying for a new LCD screen. You can connect screentek and get them to install a glossy screen or buy one and DIY job.

Hopefully there is some sort of protective film that acts like a matte, which you can put over a glossy screen. That way I can have both  > :D
