no seriously, i really did try to search thru the sticky

but i couldn't find a direct comparison between vmware fusion and parallels.

just found out i still need xp to upload some data from my pda to the work data collection system

i'm pretty certain i don't want to go with bootcamp as it seems like a hassle to have to reboot everytime i want to go into windows (i'm also not a gamer so the dropoff in speed from bootcamp to the virtualization software won't bother me)

but im still stuck on which would be the better option?

one of them really should drop their price and at least give consumers some objective evidence for picking them over the other :p

    what do you guys/gals say?

    thanks!

I have used both and decided to stay with VM Ware Fusion because Parallels was giving me kernel panics. I have also seen benchmarks in which VM Ware Fusion performed better.

    Fusion Fusion Fusion FUSION!

Parallels pretty much sucks. They were great... then VMWare caught up. Parallels runs in Ring0... so if it runs into a problem, it crashes OS X.
Parallels also SUCKS when it comes to Linux support.

And don't get me started on the Parallels web site. It's terrible. I can no longer retrieve my product key from it either (you can wipe someones key out by registering for a demo with their email address :p ).

VMWare are big. Very big... Been around for a while and have a lot of experience and other VM products out there.

If I had to choose... VMWare in a heartbeat. And you COULD install bootcamp, and use either VM tool to run it inside OS X.

I've tried both and like Fusion better but it kept crashing when i tried to run Autodesk's Inventor which works fine with parallels. I would test your specific apps you need to run and make sure they are compatible.

sweets, sounds like it's fusion then

i plan on running just palm desktop and software (windows only) that allows me upload certain data I have stored on my palm

was thinking about installing dvd shrink as well but i plan on testing out mactheripper and toast (recently purchased...lots of store credit to use up here :p)
