I know Apple likely covers hardware failures but what about LCD issues that may arise or even accidental damage?

I know Dell offers accidental damage coverage, what about Apple with their MacBooks?

Apple does not cover accidental damage.

So, what happens when/if your screen starts going funky on you after a year or more, because that kind of thing can and will happen with regular use? Do they give you the we're sorry sir line and that is that?

Just wondering, I'd like to get a Mac but as far as I can see my best bet is to get an Acer or Dell with one of their full coverage plans, that and throw XP back on one of those systems.

MacBooks are so tempting yet, there you have it no accidental coverage... major downfall.

No accidental damage means if you drop it or punch something through the screen or spill stuff on it. Something that would be YOUR fault. But if the screen, or any other part, starts malfunctioning by itself then Apple will cover it, yeah. The LCD in a Mac shouldn't be going "funky" on you at all before the 3 year warranty. If it does then it was just a messed up screen. I have a 3 year old Compaq LCD screen and it's prefectly fine, and much lower quality than my Macs.

Yeah, if the screen gets funky, then you can talk to them and they will replace it/repair it.

But by no accidental coverage, they mean they're not going to replace your Mac because you dropped it and it cracked.

Yeah that's the area that Apple is sort of lacking is in the warranty department. Dell has about the best warranty coverage out there for the price. You can get a 3 year warranty with accidental coverage for pretty cheap usually in discount deals and if something serious happens to the laptop they'll just send you a brand new one.
