I am not sure if this deserve a thread but i just messed up tons of my psd files overwriting files that i needed with something else. Recreating everything would take days!

So i was thinking about "going back in time" and loosing a day of work (which wasnt ideal solution since i didnt need EVERYTHING restored). So i pressed time machine and WOW — it took me to the folder i was currently browsing. 30 minutes ago, 60 minutes ago... i was able to just pick a file i needed and copy it back like it was in recycled bin.

    how cool is that?!
    Pure joy
    :p

I've had my MacBook Pro for a while and only started using Time Machine several months ago when I bought a 2 TB external drive. I had been doing full backups every two months. I just plug my machine into the external drive in the office and don't worry about it. I've had to fetch a few files off of it. The interface is wonderful - should have started using it years ago.

Time Machine and iPhoto are the best free programs bundled with OSX, full stop. Time Machine is a truly fantastic backup program.

(knock on wood) wait 'till you have to restore from a Time Machine back up, worked for us on 2 occasions over the last few years. Apple / Macs are not exempt from HD failure, but the TM really made it a walk in the park.

I upgraded the HD in my early 2008 MBP in August to a 1 TB drive (fortunately before the floods in Thailand) so I'm not expecting any disk failures in the near term but it's nice to know that the whole system is backed up. If I lose the system, then I can just buy a new MBP and do a restore. My old system is fine and probably good for the next five years. I have to look around for a good enough reason to replace the thing.
