I bought this laptop 2 days ago with the hopes of overpaying just a little bit to get something better that will last me for years...

The problem is, when I put my finger on the screen, wrinkles appear like if I'm applying extreme pressure to it. It looks like huge waves waves surrounding the pressure and covering just about the whole screen. I've never had a laptop that felt so fragile.

On top of that, the spacebar looks unbalanced and the 'j' key only works when I apply center pressure on it, unlike the other keys that work from any angle. The battery pack on the bottom is also unbalanced... Half of it is sticking out by 1mm

I just spent $1550 on it and what sucks about all this is that I can't get a refund (-150$) and an exchange would not convince me that macs are good quality builds...

Lets just hope they'll take it for an exchange and not send it to repairs...

    Is the LCD issue normal?

    Thanks

did you press the screen viewing side? not the back of the lid with apple logo?

of course!! every laptop; infact all LCD has that phenomenome. most probably you see more waves than usual, because the macbook's glossy screen. the back of the laptop is sturdy though.. more so than some/most of the competitors.

Yeah, every notebook screen is like that. As for the keys, that's not normal...talk to Apple about it :).

Take it back and ask for an exchange. I doubt seriously that you'll be turned down. Apple service, in my experience over the years, has been awesome. Don't be too worried or upset over this until you've at least spoken to the Apple folks. I know it's miserable when a brand new machine is not perfect, but sometimes they just aren't. There are threads like this in every section of NBR, unfortunately. Usually the companies involved (not just Apple) make things right for their customers.

And, just a suggestion, don't touch the screen except to genly wipe off dust.

Good luck, lebsoljah. I hope this works out well and you enjoy your new Mac.

Your LCD is perfectly normal. Every LCD on the planet does that. You're not exactly supposed to be putting a lot of pressure on it either.

Your keyboard on the other hand has some problems. Bring it to Apple to get it fixed.

    Thanks alot for the replies

I had an acer laptop before this and it had a thick transparent plastic which is probably the reason why it looked more solid...

It gets wrinkled up when i apply pressure on the interior part

Thanks for the help, I'll look into the keyboard issue

For the most part, listen to bmwrob. Posts like this do exist in every part of the forum, but I don't know if all the manufacturers try to make things right for their customers. I have read many posts where people report having a hard time with customer service. You just have to be one of the lucky ones to get exactly what you want out of customer service . . . customer service. ;)

I also replaced my original Macbook due to damage on the battery release caused by whoever upgraded the RAM and the battery not sitting flush. It was a simple procedure and my Macbook (now going on its 14th month) has held up very well to daily use and abuse, including extensive fieldwork and travel. I'd suggest a tight-fitting neoprene case when travelling as it provides a good deal extra protection. Mine took a good fall while in that case without any resultant damage. A silicone keyboard cover (very cheap on ebay) also goes a long way to improving typing experience in terms of noise and comfort.

Thanks for the replies, I'm very happy with my new laptop. I understand why these laptops keep their value in the long run
