I can't get my laptop or iTunes to recognize my iPod. As far as I know, my iPod is working properly, the cable works properly because it's charging the iPod, and the iPod has full battery so that's not the problem. Multiple resets and restarts didn't work. Could be because I'm using a third party cable but I don't think that's really the reason because I had synced my iPod with the same cable on my laptop before, and I tried it on both USB ports on my macbook pro. And both ports are working because I can get an external mouse to respond on one and I use my printer on the other.

    Help....!!! :) :) :) :)

Otherwise, it was a rather pointless post and I might have to delete it for "off topic". Are you on the latest iTunes software? There are certain cases where iTunes will not pop out when the iPod is plugged in because of certain minor glitches. That might be an issue. There is a rather recent new addition to iTunes, 8.0.1, so that might solve the problem if you're not already on it.

Note: There was a post exchange I had with Emor here, but I found it unfair to iwantamac to derail his thread so I've deleted the posts.

Since it's an aftermarket cable, I would start by replacing that. I never have good luck with cheap cables lasting. You can get another third party cable for a couple of bucks on eBay or if you can find the original, that would be even better.

Something you could try though, is look in your system profiler while it's connected. (Apple menu > About this Mac > More info button, look in the USB section) If it shows up there, then something is configured wrong.

If it's still not working, try restarting the laptop/computer with the iPod still plugged in. :) When my poor iPod mini (Yes it still works! :D!) doesn't get recognized, restarting the computer always somehow works... :p

Nope, still not working. I give up. I'm gonna try with another cable and see if that changes anything. Too bad it's going to cost me $20 if I wanted to get another cable.... :(

I'd try to do a hard restore on my iPod but it might become useless if that's not the reason my iPod and laptop aren't communicating.
