I find myself constantly having to carry my MBP around with the utmost of care just to make sure the magsafe adapter doesn't fall out. The same holds true when I'm laying in bed or have the notebook on my lap or any other uneven surface. Why not just let it fall out? Because that is the best way to slowly deplete the battery...by constantly letting it cycle and recharge!!

Anybody else hear me on this? I never used to trip on my PC cords...I don't think magsafe is worth the benefit!

Heh :). Keeping the battery plugged in while having the magsafe adapter plugged in will shorten the battery life after awhile if that is all you do. Draining the battery almost completely and charging it is better for the battery. Thats why they say if you want to calibrate your battery drain it all the way then charge it up.

Personally I hate magsafe. I had a friend who had a Macbook with a faulty battery so you couldn't unplug it. I found too many times that I would be sitting on a bed using it on my lap and I would move my left thigh up to move it and there goes the magsafe adapter.

    Tell me about it.

I actually use the battery a fair bit. At least once every two or three days I'll unplug it for some mobile use. But this constant, looming nuisance everytime I make the slightest move is just plain annoying....

Unplugging it for a couple seconds isn't going to do much of anything. I love the mag safe, it's already saved my laptop once. The connector is better then the ones with a pin like on Dells that wear out and you need to replace or you can't use your laptop.

I always remove my battery while my notebook is plugged in to AC. But with the Magsafe I can't imagine people would do that to risk accidentally turning off their Mac while working on important documents.

Yea, the magsafe has saved my mbp more times, that it outweighs the annoyances. Sure sometimes, it can fall out, but I like it.

Well - I see you frustration, but isn't it better that it disconnects rather than having the plug bent? That's why I love it... It won't break or bend or anything.. :)

Magsafe saved my computer from myself TWICE. And multiple times from other people.

I find people are more prone to trip on computer cords nowadays. I don't know why, but Magsafe saved my computer.

I have pets who sometimes decide to have an impromptu Indy 500 in the livingroom. I can't begin to count how many times one of them has knocked the magsafe connector out of my Air. Any other laptop would have been on the floor.

I am quite confused what the issue is with magsafe. It has quite the severe magnetic connection with my computer, it isn't flimsy at all. I can have it plugged in on my lap or on the desk or on a chair and the magsafe does a great job.

Why on earth are people complaining that it bends off? What if it was a normal connector? You know what would happen? The entire power jack would be destroyed and you'd need a new laptop!!!!!

What the complaint really is (at least as far as I can understand it) is the placement of the power jack is undesirable for some people.

Also, beware of running your MBP without the battery. It will refuse to run at full speed with the battery removed. You'll be running at half your rated processor speed without it. (In my case, removing the battery limits my 2.4 GHz processor to 1.2GHz, according to CPU-Z).

I want to remove the battery when it's just in my office, but it throttles the CPU and GPU speeds down!

Does anyone know if the new macbook and macbrook pro have fixed this issue?

Apple can solve this Magsafe disconnection problem by simply adding a battery to the notebook. Then when the magsafe falls out then the computer doesn't shut off... oh... wait...

Well just give yourself a foot of slack and you shouldn't have a problem. It's meant to detach when tensioned...

All I can say is that I like it, I like its design (wrapping up ur wires) and its size....sure it can annoy you when you move around on your lap and it unplugs.....I always have my battery when I tend to move around or have it on my lap....and take out the battery when I am stationed. I have no problems with magsafe yet.

excellent point, I have always thought Apple should have batteries on there portable compu..... oh yeah that's right.

this is a ridiculous complaint, the connector does not fall out easily by any means, you are definitely in lonely company with this complaint I would think.

it is easier to plugin in, un plug, and completely avoids an possible damage to the logic board from careless people.

are you using the extension cable? I think for whatever reason many people do not realize that their power adapter has an extra extension cable the will more than double its length.

If it's really that big of a problem you can just hold a little bit of the cord in you hand when you move it...

I love the mag safe, its fun to plug in, and has saved my a.ss, and my wife more than a few times. Yes it does come unplugged, but I have the battery in and its never a problem. On that I don't buy the batter damage issue, I have been plugging&unplugging my laptop constantly for the past 2 years straight, and my health is still at ~100%. Also aftermarket battery are not all that expensive, so it it does die its a cheap repair to make.

As far as I understand you only need to drain it completely once every month or two.

If you do this all the time it will shorten battery life.

hey people what is magsafe? is that the maginatic thing that sucked my laptop to the power cord connector? that thing is freaking scary at first i thought i zapped my laptop hahahha.

My wife and daughter didn't tell me about this feature :)

Just ordered myself a new macbook pro next gen but i ordred the barebone entry level compared to the ones my wife and daughter has. The reason why i chose the entry level is because, all i do is watch dvd and surf the net. Only play games with our Alienware so it didn't bother me getting the entry level.

Yah me too!! The first time magsafe got sucked into the port felt kinda neat (never having done it before). Plus I don't see anymore bent plugs when accidents happen; and they will. Wonderful safety feature. Magsafe is the best!!!

Haha yea as I said my friends macbook didn't have a battery so since that was my first experience with magsafe it wasn' the best :). I have seen it save my half-sisters *** though when she is on the couch and my dog trips over the cord.

I would rather have the magsafe as a precaution then trip over the cord and be left with nothing. I actually like it, you don't need to look at the port to put it in, and it clicks easy.

I'm indifferent. I'm a total clutz and have a bad habit of tripping over cords, but I've found that on non-apples the cord just pulls out of the plug safely most of time anyway. I had a close call once where the laptop was dragged across the table a bit but that's all. Magsafe is nice, but I think most people overstate how many times it has "saved" their computer.

Then you are one of the lucky ones. I had my dog go into a sprint a few months back, and she pulled my HP off of my lap after getting under the ac cord. The small plug on the ac adapter was now bent, and the charge has never been the same. If she ever does this again, I'll smile as I watch the mag safe 'safely' pop off off and say, "Buh Bye"!! :p

I hear you man, I dislike the whole Magsafe thing.
I think that's because my MacBook Pro just stays in one location, and if I do bring it out, I don't bring the charger around as four hours of battery time is ample time for me to use my computer.

    Heh, just my opinion. :p
