I was so happy to get my macbook today. Wow, it's such a beautiful notebook! My first notebook was the Dell Inspiron E1705, and I told myself, if the build and screen quality is better than that, I'll be happy. I'm more than happy. :D
First, the screen is bright, and NOT grainy like the Dell was. The whole notebook is so solid, whereas my Dell creaked and groaned every time I moved it or opened the lid. The macbook is super quiet and runs very cool, I don't even hear it! Although I'm wondering if I got a bad HDD, because it's clicking quite a bit.
I LOVE OSX!! That's all I can say, I love it! I am annoyed by a couple things however. There is no cut and paste, or create new file by right clicking. I don't think that's very intuitive or productive by not having those options, but I suppose I could get used to it eventually.
Although this is yesterday's technology, I have to say, I think this $999 was well spent. I'm very happy with this purchase. :)
Now I'm just waiting for my 4GB RAM kit and windows xp to arrive, then it's off to learn about bootcamp! :D

    Nice. :)

I think Command+C and Command+V is copy and paste on OSX.

I can do copy and paste, but it's annoying because you have to delete the original file. I meant I'd like to be able to CUT and paste. :)

You can't do the cut & paste, only copy & paste. If you want to move something, try to drag and drop. It took me a few days to get familiar with this.

Command-X is cut but I'm not sure if it works on files.

Edit: Disregard post; I just tried it and it didn't work.

Congratulations on the purchase! I've used the white MacBook myself and it's a great little machine, and in my opinion any Apple notebook beats the quality compared to Dell, HP, etc.

Command+X works only in editors (Office, Photoshop...etc), not in Finder.

I'm not sure if it's true, but I've read that OSX doesn't fragment nearly as bad as windows, otherwise I'd be worried about having to copy and paste a file, then delete the original all the time.
Wow, this screen is by far and away so much better than that Dell! I honestly can't understand how some say the last gen macbook screens are so crappy.

I've been running my MBP since early this year without any defrag application and I've downloaded and deleted a ton of stuff and it's as fast today as it was on day one. I think defragging a mac isn't nearly as important as on a windows machine.

I agree with you, and this is one point that I really enjoy with my Mac compared to Windows PCs... even on past Macintosh computers that I have owned, they never slowed down over time, and that's true today as well, whereas I find with Windows it will slow down after a month of use or so.

Well that's strange. I tried to install windows vista (until xp arrives :p) in bootcamp, and twice it crashed, windows setup just totally froze haha. :D
Got it working finally after a restart. :D

It is true. I wont deny it. :D I've had many intel based systems, and never had a problem with them. They were always rock solid. My last notebook had nvidia graphics (geforce 7900gs) and had overheating problems. A few years ago, I had a geforce card in my desktop that failed after a couple months (I never overclock).
So, for me anyway, I trust intel more. :) ;)

Hmm, maybe I'm just being nitpicky, but. I noticed from the box, my macbook was pre-packaged on oct 16, a full 2 weeks before I ordered, and also the battery already had a charge cycle on it before I charged it the first time. That along with the excessive hard drive clicking, I wonder if I got someone's return. Since it never actually shipped from china.
    Should I be worried?

    I'll get to it eventually. ;) I'm more hands-on, learn as I experiment. :D
Want to know a funny story? I could have probably saved myself a lot of trouble if I had read them.
Being totally new to macs, I didn't (still don't really :D) know my way around OSX. I used bootcamp to install windows yesterday, and when it came down to choosing a partition and formatting, I chose the 32gb partition that bootcamp created.
After installing, suddenly OSX wouldn't boot any more, there was no boot option or anything, and I thought I missed something and totally screwed up my leopard install. So, I went through all the trouble of reformatting and reinstalling leopard, finally got online and read about bootcamp, only to find out I just had to install the bootcamp drivers from disc 1.
That will teach me to dive head first into unknown territory. :D I know by letting you guys know this huge dumb mistake I made I will pay for it here later. :D :D
But atleast I'm not like one of those guys, that tries to renovate his house himself and screws it all up, and ends up having to call in a carpenter or anything. :D I'm not Tim The Toolman Taylor.

Seriously, should I be worried? I also noticed at the top right of the monitor, the picture slightly bows down, so the picture is not completely rectangular. :(

No. The picture itself, should be completely rectangular ok. Totally straight lines top, bottom, left and right. On the top, it's not a totally straight line, it bows down a bit as it approaches the right corner. Do you follow? It's hard to explain.
Well other than these minor nitpicky things, I totally love my macbook (and the aluminum apple keyboard that just arrived today! :D :D).
But do you think Sam, all these minor things I've mentioned is worth calling apple?

I drew a crude diagram to explain it (hopefully :p). What I mean is, the actual picture that's drawn on the lcd is not perfectly rectangular. The image at top shows that it's perfectly aligned with the lcd, the bottom shows what it looks like on my macbook, although exaggerated quite a bit just so you can see what I mean. It's like the upper right portion of the picture being drawn is slightly squished, or distorted, although it's very hard to actually see it. It's like it wasn't calibrated properly at the factory or something.

I called applecare, and the guy said since I'm within the 14 day return period, he had to transfer me to sales support. I was on hold for almost 5 minutes, when an automated voice came on and said that department was closed. :D
I guess I'll call them on monday.

I was surprised to see, Battlefield 1942 runs very well on intel integrated graphics! ;) The fans of course kicked on right away, but just a couple minutes after I was done, they went back to silent mode. The macbook never felt warm, so I'm happy to see the cooling is very good. :)
I'm just loving this macbook more and more, I'd kind of hate to send it in and lose it for a few days. :(
