Due to a friend of mine's position I was able to obtain vmare fusion 1.1 and parallels 5582. I'm having some problems deciding which to use as I have them both installed but I'm new to all of this. Any suggestions on what I should do or try out?

    What's Parallels 5582?

Anyways, both have their advantages...the Windows on a Mac Guide (sticky on this forum, as well as linked on my sig) details it a bit. Personally, I find VMware Fusion to be better, as well as cheaper (it has ongoing rebates).

5582 is just the code for the latest version, which has enhanced leopard compatiblity.

Sorry if this doesn't sound extremely helpful but if you have enough hard disk space install Windows on both VM and Paralles and push both of them and see which offers what you like. I actually have Fusion on my iMac but I like the UI better in Fusion as I don't like the UI in Parallels.
It really doesn't matter if you are just using it to run a few Windows apps.

    I like bootcamp.

[Moderator Edit: Please don't put a message about the MBP getting better GPUs everywhere. Thanks]

I'd say VMware Fusion then...it seems to be good as well as allows for stuff like support for customizing how to use your multi-cores.

Speaking as someone who deals with VMware's Enterprise products every day, I'm going to guess that Fusion will continually get better as time goes by.
