The iTouch must be another cheap Chinese knock-off of the iPod Touch. Those silly copy-cats never get things right, and they always give things stupid names! :)

I just bought a refurb ipod touch 8 gig from the apple store, $209 CDN + 27.17 taxes for total of $236.17 shipping included, I wanted a iPhone but Im not going to pay what the canadian carrier wants for airtime and data, so I settled for a refurb iPod which I know I will be happy with.

I thought I would be happy with the iPod Touch as well.

Last October I thought the only option I had was the Touch so ordered one from Apple. Played with it for a couple days and really felt disappointed in the lack of features compared to price.

I ended up returning it and got a friend to buy an iPhone in Detroit for me and mailed it to Edmonton (which cost me the exact same as the 8gb Touch did). It really was love at first sight.

When the iPhone 3G was announced for Canada, it was a no brainer for me that I would be upgrading.

I thought about the iPhone Khris, and as much as I want one, I dont want to play Rogers Telecom games anymore, I have their cable internet and TV and they have done nothing but drop services and charging more money, wether its a cap on bandwidth or crappy canadian programming with a ton of unwatchable shampoo, zit cream and swiffer wet jet commercials by Canwest, even though I dont come near the monthly cap, Im not going to bow to these guys for anything anymore as they slowly cut services and raise prices, I can afford to pay their prices for the iPhone setup, but I wont unless I see a better deal or a better GSM carrier.

I certainly understand where you're coming from, but for me, Rogers is really the only choice. I refuse to EVER deal with Telus or Bell for cell service, and that leaves only Rogers. It's a matter of choosing the lesser of 3 evils while at the same time, getting the phone I want.

Got my ipodtouch 32 GB from Craigslist myself a couple months back...i love the damn thing...so awesome :)
Best was that I could view .pdf callsheets on it (i work in TV), and didn't have to worry about always losing the paper version like i used to! :p

Still considering an iphone, but unless they come out with a 32 GB version that I can use to replace my ipod, I'm not gonna bother...that and I'd have to pay close to $500 ETF with Telus, as well as whatever extra for data. Though it might not be so bad around Xmas if they offer some sweeter deals...I'd love to be with a GSM carrier anyways since i hate being locked into what phone I can use. Telus has always been great for me, but selection was never their strong point...

lol, i expect around 200 for it so i only have to dish out 40 for an iPod classic. 8gb of music won't cut it unless i update my ipod every few days.

edit: in hindsight, i think i'm just going to keep it. It looks like a nice piece of technology.

I thought an 8gb nano wouldn't be enough, after all, my collection is 60gb. I quickly found out I only listen to 6 gb of that collection or so regularly. $150 for a refurb 8gb was great deal for me, a poor college student.

it would be cool to use the ipod touch as a basic computer, complete with keyboard, mouse, and monitor. apple just needs to develop a dock like that for it, whip up a revision to the software on the ipod touch. the ipod touch (and iphone) are essentially stripped down versions of OSX anyway.

apple could do away with the mac mini by simply making such a docking station for the ipod touch. i'd buy an ipod touch 32gb if such a dock exists.

Maybe if you just want a slow internet machine, but the Mac mini, is just a tad bit more powerful. ;)

Apple won't allow anything that conflicts with its master-plan and thats exactly why it won't happen unfortunately. Turning the Touch or iPhone into a fully fledged computing platform is counter that plan as it would severely effect sales of its other products. Even if it could only access the interwebs, edit documents, mail etc if it had a keyboard with a mounting dock on it with usb port you would have a mobile workstation with a 12 hour battery life. Great for us, terrible for laptop sales to certain customers for them. As the Touch and iPhone are virtually identical platforms you could have an always-on unlimited data plan connected device = financial disaster for the fruit company. Check out the restrictions on their SDK, its peppered with a 'do this and we'll sue' mentality, or worse I'm sure. If anyone wants to figure out how to do this to a Touch or iPhone and tell everyone I promise to lay a wreath on your grave once we find your body.
