I did it, despite all those Update notices. That is, I purchased my MPB. Why, you ask? Because honestly, I didnt really like the rumored updates. Yeah Penryn is great and all but there isn't that much a performance difference between that and the current chips, and I dont really mind 30 minutes of less battery life. Multi touch I can't really see myself using in excess. Im content with 2-finger scrolling. The three finger flip-through would be nice, though....
250GB of hard drive is nice, and I didnt hear anything about updating the HDD. And its not like they can fit a bigger graphics card w/o melting the MPB. Also I heard rumors that there could be some asthetic changes, which I dont really want. I like the MBP the way it is.
Basically it boiled down to this: Am I content with this current model of MBP? I answered yes, and I figured that between the time I bought it and now if there was an update, that would be awesome, but I wouldnt lose any sleep on it. I dind't feel like waiting, I don't regret it, and I can't wait for it to come in the mail. ... Just a nice little announcement :D

    Quitter!!!!

lol, jk, it's a nice buy, update or not.

And IMO, multi-touch is still just a gimmick. Scrolling excluded, since it beats having ugly bars at the side of the pad.

    Sounds good. :)

I'm actually wishing Apple would just update already! EVERY week it's like "Rumored Tuesday Update for MBP!" Every single Tuesday! MAN! :p Be sure to update us when it actually arrives and you get a chance to play with it. :)

I doubt that the mbp will be updated any time soon. I think the next big thing for apple is the iphone skd... which is already behind and not coming till march if you believe the weekend rumor mills. That then puts the mbp in April/May.... maybe even june/july. I would then expect the mb to get the refresh in Sept for the back to school thingo. And finally the iphone v2 will come around Nov with 3G just in time for Xmas... and thats apple for 2008!
So I think your safe with your purchase, and enjoy!

    Congrats George! :)

Yeah...the recent hardware updates, sure they're good, but its not like the previous generation is obsolete compared to the newer one. The Core Duos are still very powerful now.

ps on the upside the updates were fairly minor, you didn't miss out on much, and I'm also glad that I got my wife a macbook a few weeks ago.. still no led screen or multi touch...even less of an update on those.
