When I click "download all free updates" it says that they cant not be purchased because i do not have write access to the iTunes media folder. I do because I checked out all the folders and they say read and write, plus I can add music to the library from other sources than iTunes store without a problem.

first try is the old repair permissions.... when that doesn't fix it, double check the preferences to what media folder it thinks its point to... just to make sure. Then go see if you can normally create a folder in the same folder all the apps are stored in, to know if there really is a permissions problem, or if its an iTunes problem.

I just repaired permissions and was able to create folders in my iTunes folder, as well as the mobile applications folder within it. So now I know this is an iTunes problem. The preferences show that the folder is home/muic/iTunes/ iTunes Music (im not sure if thats what it usually should be or if it should be the root iTunes folder).
