I got on to Engadget today to find out that Nvidia was releasing, there new 9 series GPU's on February but my problem is the new MBP's are salted to come out on Janurary. Then there is another issuer the fact that Nahelm is coming out and that is supposed to make notebook sizes 40% smaller, now I cannot wait for everything but, I will wait for the best tech. Does anyone know if the new MBP are going to be released with the new 9series gpu's or are they going to stick to the 8600GT? When is nahelm supposed to come out?

    Nehalem? 2009 at best.
I'm not sure about the new MBP's but this is all(on the MBP update side) speculation.

If anybody knew that, they would've already mentioned it. Technology is always advancing, and a laptop that is top of the line today will be middle of the pack tomorrow. Buy what you want, when you need it, without regrets.

You'll see it on a PC laptop first.

Apple does not upgrade their laptops with every advance.

They do this largely to simplify support, increase product stability and to increase profits.

The MBP will have the 8600 for quite a while longer, just like it had the X1600 for a while.

Nehalem is expected to be released in the second half of 2008, last time I checked. Before Nehalem's release is the release of the Montevina processing platform.

If they release a new MBP in January (a big if), it will likely only be with Penryn, that is it. Maybe over the summer you will see them do a major update when Montevina and the next gen video cards are out. I would actually expect ATI in the next version since they have a huge jump on having shipping cards. The first 9xxx are expected around February, but they will be the high-end. The mid-range, according to Engadget won't be out until the summer.

Long story short, we got a while before a major revision. Buy it now if you need it.

C know I am confused which one to wait for, buy the one in January or the one over the summer. I am for sure going to buy one with a Nehalem processor as well.

Like we said... if you CAN wait, then wait for the summer MacBook Pro. It's not certain if the MBP will get an update in January... maybe February.. but it's not certain yet.

Some things are worth waiting for. The switch from Pentium 4 and Pentium M to Core Duo and Core 2 Duo is a good example.

However, I don't think we are are that point right now.

I read a few weeks ago Nehalem is scheduled for 2009 release. There is always something new and better around the corner.

Another way to play it is, buy now. $2100.

Use for ~year, sell for $1500. Lose $600 in a year, that's what, $50/month? A bar tab or a bag of mexi weed.

Not too bad, and you get a new laptop every year. More or less that's what I do.
