I have posted several questions on here and got great answers. I took my time, waited til a good time to buy, and finally made up my mind and pulled the trigger on the new 13-MBP for $1099.

I have had it for a couple of weeks and I absolutely love it. Backlit keyboard, its super fast, user interface is great, Safari 4 is nice, my iPod Touch that came with it is awesome, I basically couldnt be happier with my purchase and the advice given on here about the summer iPod deal and some of the possible upgrades. I just wanted to thank everyone, and wish everyone a happy 4th.

I am a huge Mac fan now.

There were lots of comments on this thread including mine and these got deleted. I will congratulate you once again and if possible, do setup a time machine in order to do your back ups as malfunctions may occur anytime. i also advise you to purchase apple care to extend the warranty period to 3 years. also, a sleeve or hard shell will protect the casing from scratches.

    Our job is done!

But seriously they are cool little machines, aesthetically beautifully and with arguably the easiest to use operating system ever made.

I love my mac to pieces (stable productive work machine) but I still have PCs and Linux boxes around for gaming and web servers.

Aluminum scratch very easily, a lot easier than say laptop casing that's made out of plastic. Aluminum is very soft and malluable thus the material itself is prone to scratches.

Congrats on the new Macbook pro 13"

I myself just purchased one too and love it to death. Way better than my previous laptop.

About scratching. Even stainless steel watches gets scratched very easily and aluminum which is a softer metal, probably would be more prone to scratches.

Untrue, like most things you write.

The quality of the plastic and aluminum alloy in question is very important. I doubt that Apple uses the cheapest aluminum alloys available. Most budget notebooks, OTOH, do use the most cost effective plastic there is.

Scratches may show up more palpably on even harder aluminum because marks are generally darker than the silver color of the compound. Plastics can hide scratches easier.

Aluminum will show scratches alot more than on plastic. Also I would suggest that you get the invisible shield, it is VERY VERY GOOD. I have it on my MBP and it is paper thin, and will prevent scratches and blemishes on your laptop while keeping its original look, size.

Mine doesnt have any scratches yet, but I have basically left it in the same spot in my house and been extremely careful with it.

I am about to start school and I figure I will be moving it around a lot more. I plan on getting some kind of carrying case before that so I dont have to worry about it so much.

I highly recommend the 13 MBP for $1099. It is the best computer I have ever had, and you throw in the free Touch and printer, and this is a pretty amazing deal. My only complaint is the absence of a Microsoft Office type of program. When you consider how many people do word processing and presentations on their computers, MSOffice or iWork should be standard on the computer, or you should have the choice of substituting iWork for Garageband or something. I am just going to have to pony up a few more dollars and get MSOffice.

not in my opinion. depends on what you need it to do I guess.

personally i prefer either microsoft office of apple iwork over the open source software in this case.

I am loving Pages and Keynote more than Windows and Powerpoint the more I am using it. Although Numbers can not even compete with Windows Excel.
