WHats the battery life on the new 15" MBP? How much can you get with wifi off, and screen turned down to a lower setting? What about blasting everything on max?

Also, is it possible to remove OSX, and run Vista exclusively?

If you really want to do that (geez, I hope not!!) you probably should just look into purchasing a nice machine from Asus. Personally, I think buying a Mac and then removing OSX defeats the purpose of buying the Mac in the first place.

I don't even understand why everyone is so excited about being able to run vista at all. I thought the purpose of buying a mac is the the OS. Why do you even want both?

As an engineering student, most of the apps i need to run for school are only Windows based. I'm only considering Macs now because of bootcamp.

    Thats just my motive though.

That seems much more logical to me, Andrew, than removing OSX altogether from a new Mac.

Well, first to answer your question, the battery life of the new MBP should run between 4 -7 hours. That ranges from full brightness speakers cranked watching a movie and downloading from a 802.11n network to lower brightness just reading some text.

Now about running Vista, yes it is possible. I really hope you were just curious on if it could be done. The biggest reason to buy a mac is for OS X. If you're going to completely remove it, then you may as well get a cheaper laptop, cause you obviously don't care about quality if you're installing Vista over Os X!

Of course Apple designed all the Intel Macs so you can install Windows but it is only a selling ploy to close the deal. If your plans to use the Mac hardware involve running only Windows or making Windows your predominant OS then it's a total waste of money. It's great to have the best of both worlds on one machine but to buy it and run Windows as your main OS due to existing software then there are plenty of Wintel PC choices out there by HP, Sony, Asus and Dell.
Now I'm a true and true Mac user, I left the PC world back when it Mac OS8 and I didn't need to depend on Windows for my life to keep moving. I love it when I see new Mac users but to buy a Mac and not really intend to use it as a Mac full time it sort of a waste. The whole idea of buying a Mac is to eventually move away from Windows.

All my software is Windows based, and Mac OS offers nothing for me Windows doesnt have already. Im not an idiot, so viruses/spyware are not a problem. What can OSX do what Windows cant?

I also cant stand the interface.... I like having a taskbar, instead of that retarded dock.

You'd be surprised by the amount of software available for macs in your field. I thought I'd be using Windows every day because I'm a software engineer, but I find that I actually only need to use parallels a couple times a week to use a feature or two that isn't quite ready yet on mac softwares.

My main work PC is Windows based, I dont wanna deal with another OS on my laptop, sorry. Lets not turn this into a mac vs pc debate.

My question has been answered, thanks.

This hasn't become a Mac vs PC debate. Rather, it has become a discussion about whether removing OSX from a Mac with the intention of using Windows only makes sense. The consensus seems to be that it does not.

Glad your questions were answered to your satisfaction. Hope you choose your machine wisely and that your choice works well for you.

I like how it looks, its one of the best designed laptops out there. Doesnt mean I have to keep the OS.
