I'm considering purchasing a Macbook Pro and as you all probably know already, college students can receive a mail-in rebate that will cover the cost of an iPod touch.
I'm just wondering if anyone has gone through the entire process. Was it a big hassle? or was it a smooth process?

I've heard that the process is pretty smooth, I haven't really heard of issues from them!

If you follow the instructions everything will go fine. I have done it twice and got my rebate back in less than three weeks.

Wow, xprohx, that's excellent. I've never gotten a rebate back from any company without a fight, or in less than at least six weeks. I don't even buy products offered with rebates anymore - just not worth the hassle or headache. Products on sale, though, are a different matter. I can be pretty damn tight. lol

Meeting the requirements is a huge hassle i.e. preparing all the paperwork. It's the biggest pain ever. Takes a solid hour to do everything (along with photocopying it all...). However, I've done it twice so far and have gotten my money back both times. So it's worth it but be warned it won't take 5 minutes...

preparing what paperwork? the receipt? it is a very easy process, it is all online now.

Well I got a MBP last year for college and handled two rebates ("free" ipod nano and printer). Each form takes like 3 minutes to fill out (they are only a single page asking for basic stuff like name/address and product info). You also need to cut the UPC label off the boxes. All in all about 15 minutes or work. I received my rebate checks about a month after sending the paperwork.

They work great. My sister just did it with the macbook she just bought I think she said it took a few days to get the money back.

Thanks for all of your feedback!
Like bmwrob, I refuse to use mail-in rebates for almost every sale except for a few select companies that live up to them. Looks like Apple does a great job with rebates. -

Its a smooth and easy process from my experience.

My cousin who ordered the Macbook with free iPod has already got the rebate money back.
-
It was all very smooth. We did it online and received the checks in probably two weeks.

Ordered Macbook Pro and iPod Touch from the Apple website. For rebate, all I had to do was enter my web order number and I was done. Already had an Apple ID, so they knew my address and email info. Took less than 5 minutes.

Meaning - do the Apple stores let you use your student discount at their stores? what documents do you have to bring to prove to them you are a student?
NB: I will be going into my first year of University next year. However, I do not have a student card yet, but do have a student number. -

It's crucial however, that all relevant *original* receipts, and product barcodes *** cut out (not peeled, etc.) directly from the original packaging, with the cardboard and all*** be included with that printed-out sheet.
I suggest taping everything on the barcode sheet.
If you're applying for two rebates at once, and therefore cannot include original receipts and product barcodes (cut out from the box) with both, then I'd suggest making photocopies of everything and including those; indicating however, exactly for which rebate the originals were sent.
I got my rebate checks for the iPod nano and HP Printer sooner than I expected.
Note, however, that you'll still have to pay tax for the items rebated. So you won't exactly have them "for free".
How well does Apple handle those iPod rebates?
