Hey guys, so I've got this issue here.

I downloaded and installed VLC, and I can't set all my .avi files to be opened with it. Finder always wants to open them with Quicktime.

I thought that right clicking on any .avi file > Open With... > Other > selecting VLC and checking the "Always Open With" option (and clicking open) - will apply to all my .avi files, but it DOES NOT. It changes the association to THAT particular file only.

So how to deal with this issue?

Is there a more general file association panel I don't know about?

    Cheers! :D

... Just to add my 2 cents, a really useful app for this and future file association issues is Default Apps
    http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/

You can easily set and maintain all of your file associations. One of the most useful apps I have on my mac :D
