I'm enjoying Leopard, but I've yet to find a way to reset the viewing settings in individual folders, including those on external hard disks.

Exactly how do I do a global reset of the folders to a specific setting? I want all my icons at a specific size, specific background color, and properly organized/gridded. How do I do that? :(

I tried Finder/View/Preferences and clicked "Use As Default" but that only seems to apply to newly created folders. Those with their own previous settings, such as DVD+R's burned with settings pre-set by Roxio Toast won't change to default.

hmm, surely there is a way? Sorry if this considered a dumb question, but I'm somewhat of a recent switcher. Was using 10.4 Tiger since July 30th than switched to 10.5 Leopard. :X

Wow, I'm beginning to think there isn't a way to do these global view settings resets...

How can such an option even be left out of an O/S?

DVDs have their own specified view settings which you cannot change. If you clicked the Use as Default key in View Options (Cmd+J), it will save only those settings for the specific view, not the view itself. So, if you for example save settings while in List view in Folder A, Folder B, which shows itself in Cover Flow mode will not default to List view. You will have to click the List view button in Finder in order to have Folder B display the same as Folder A.

Alright, but my question leans more towards globally resetting view options. I want every folder on every hard disk connected to my MBP to display Size 64 Icons, Arranged by name, with a blue background. How do I do that?

My topic title was a little misleading, instead of individual I meant multiple, I don't know what I typed individual. :(

So the Use as Defaults button in View Options do not work? You might have to plug in your external drives first before setting default view options so that the HDs will store the information.

I tried that, but I think that only works for newly created folders. Old folders with customized views still retain their customizations.
