The Macbook i want is as standard £829.00... but my mate just checked in the "Higher Education" section through his uni, and its £713... over £100 saving... this is highly apple-ing :)rolleyes :)

any idea how to get this price outside of a uni, or if you can ring them up an blag it without any proofs?

if not, then ill have to get a mate to buy it for me... also, is this price available in the shops?

    Cheers...

You are going to need to get someone who is enrolled to buy it for you unfortunately.

This is the equivalent of an underage kid getting an adult to buy him a pack of smokes.

far from it... kids dont get adults to buy a pack of smokes to save money, they do it to acquire a product...

i can acquire the product... however if a mate buys it for me, i save £116 (CAD$219).

That can go towards buying a good midi controler/interface to go with it :)

You missed the entire point; it has nothing to do with money. In the same way that an underage kid uses an adult to illegally acquire cigarettes, you are using your friend to get for a discount for something that you are not legitimately eligible for. The whole point of the education discount is to give money-strapped students a break. You call it saving money; I call it cheating.

Call it whatever you like. Getting someone else to buy you something is DEFINITELY NOT illegal. So he can do as he pleases. And besides, its not like what he is doing is hurting you or anyone else, for that matter, in any way...

It may not be illegal, however it is still wrong and a form of misrepresentation; by the way, Apple loses out by selling a product with a cheaper student discount to someone who isn't a student.

That point in the clear, I can see that concern for people such as yourselves is a waste of time.

There is a restriction on the amount of products you can buy with the Student discount. The only one that is really hurt is the student buying the product with the student discount because then he has to wait another year to use it on a similar product again. Sure it may not conform to your moral standards but honestly I wouldn't waste my time about injustices done to Apple. There are too many other problems in the world for me to be questioning if taking advantage of an Apple student discount is the "right" thing to do.

In the US, there are several ways to get the education discount. I've used the student discount twice and the homeschooling discount twice. A coworker's wife has been on the local school board for many years and has purchased several computers with the educational discount based on her office.

It's best to check the rules on what's available.

I dunno how it is with laptops but for each of my iPods I just selected a school, didn't have to provide any proof.

It's really not a big deal, college students aren't the only ones that are broke. And Apple is obviously still making a profit.

As a cash-strapped student, and someone who has a fairly strong set a morals (yes, so hard to find in this day and age), I'm going to have to second Bog's view of this.

It doesn't matter whether or not Apple is making a profit. You're defrauding a system that's intended for an entirely different group, and you're not part of that group.

So? College students need a computer for their work, and a lot of times, they need a Mac for media/art-related majors. They're financially burdened by school. Others are probably financially burdened by not having gone to school. That is their problem, and defrauding a company because of it is worthy of being compared to grand theft.

But then again, perish the thought people have morals in this day and age.

Either enroll in school, or be a teacher. :D Simple as that. As others have said, any other way is basically fraud.

I'm closing this thread for obvious reasons. Trying to get a discount you are not entitled to is fraud, plain and simple.
