I am trying to copy some dmg files from my mbp to an external hard drive (a western digital 1tb essential, and a 250gb wd passport). I get this "error code 0" when I try to copy the files larger than 4gb. Now I heard that this is because it is a fat32 drive or something like that. Is there a way to fix this without buying a different hard drive?

Reformat the drive with a different file system.

Amazing. (How do I do that)

Note that if you format your drive to HFS+, OS X will be able to write to it but the drive won't be recognised by a Windows computer without appropriate software installed. If you format it to NTFS, you won't be able to write to it in OS X without appropriate software installed.
To format, it is best to first backup the data, and then use either Disk Utility for HFS+, or Windows Explorer or some other formatting application for NTFS. -
will this fix my problem?

That tells you how to format to HFS+.
How to fix error code 0 when copying files to external?
