    Hey guys,

I prefer using quickpick rather than launchpad and was wondering if there is a way of disabling launchpad?

Any help will greatly be appreciated.

Is there a particular reason you want to actually "disable" it? You could just drag the icon off the Dock and then go into System Preferences-Trackpad-More Gestures and uncheck the finger gestures for Launchpad. There's no way it can be in your face that way.

get rid of the Icon for it.. and disable the gesture for it if you enabled it... other than that you aren't going to just get rid of it since its part of the Dock.

I don't think you can get rid of the icon, it's part of the dock like the finder icon. You can temporarily remove it but it comes back. I think all you can do is move it some place else on the dock.

EDIT: Okay disregard my post. Getting different results. Probably best to wait for the upcoming software update.

you can remove the icon from the Dock fine... It is part of Dock.app, as in the program that is the Dock, but the icon doesn't have to stay on the dock.

So how do you permanently remove it from the Dock? When I remove it, then log off and back in, it comes back.

The real "app" is built into the Dock so you cannot disable LaunchPad... if you get rid of the gesture and the Icon though you cannot get to it.

How did I get rid of the Icon? I took it off the dock and then used terminal to force delete /Applications/LaunchPad.app. With that stupid little launcher app gone, it isn't putting it back o my dock anymore even through reboots, but the gesture to invoke LaunchPad still works fine.

I see. Not that it bothers me, I actually make use of Launchpad quite often but for those who don't want it, it'd be nice to have a way to at least make it invisible.

Really? That was one of the first icons I removed from my dock (along with Mail) and it hasn't come back after multiple reboots. I simply dragged the icon off of my dock as I would any other shortcut. The keyboard key and gesture still bring it back up but I haven't seen the icon in my dock since I removed it (without deleting anything else, just a few icons).

it came back for me anytime I did a Killall Dock, a log out and in, or a reboot... until I deleted the App. Its possible that is a bug and isn't supposed to happen, but who knows.
