What is the proper way to delete a program on mac? Is dragging it into the trash can the right way? That's what I've been doing and I don't know if its correct, so please let me know, Thanks.

Hard to believe but it's that simple. Not much different than the old MS-DOS days when all you had to do was execute the "deltree"command and poof it was gone.

p.s. I always like to run secure empty trash when deleting my data.

That is usually the correct way, although some small preference files might be left over in your Libraries folder. You could use some 3rd party apps like Appdelete, which will delete those preference files along with the app files should you need to.

Yeah, I'm not an experienced mac user yet, Before this I sold my Dell Xps system and got a macbook, so I'm still learning, I really like the mac osx, so it looks like I was deleting the programs the right way in the first place!

The preference files won't take up enough space to be noticed and will not interfere with system operations (ie, it's not like the Windows registry where it gets bogged down by all the additions) if left alone. So basically, just throw away the application itself and you're good.

If you want it to "feel clean" and remove all trace of the applications, use some third-party application like Budding recommended. I think there's one called AppZapper or some such, but I haven't felt the need to try any of these myself.

Well, for most things like messenger or even firefox simply dragging it to the trash. But when you get into the bigger applications like games or CS 2/3, then using a program to get rid of all the other files is a good idea.

I use appDelete whenever I have a huge program I want to unistall, just to feel safe. If you can find a copy of uApp, try to get it. It's much better, but it's hard to find right now :(

I just use AppDelete for all the applications I want to get rid of. I'm a "clean" freak, I like to keep my computer as "clean" as possible :p.

But yes, normally just dragging to Trash will delete the program. If there are remaining files, it will have no side effects to your computer, but it might take up a little space.

Does AppDelete work like CCleaner? (deletes any remnants, that programs leave behind after uninstalling the program.)
