    MBP 13 with 320m with 10.6.4

How do I get to the settings that allow me to choose what closing the does to the mac?
For example, (need to buy DP->HDMI) play a movie, choose tv/monitor as primary display, macbook screen off, lid closed.

Also when I close the lid, by default, does it go into sleep or hibernate? Any way i can set it to sleep, shut down, nothing?

Also, I was wondering if i could click shut down and close the lid while putting away in my bookbag?

Also, also.... also is it safe to move the laptop with a dvd loaded? while the mac is on? off?

Im just new to mac and trying to maCe this switch smoothly

As far as I know Macs do not have this option, but there are third-party applications that do it like insomnix.

There is no customizable option to control what the lid does from within OSX. You will have to rely on a third party piece of software to do it.

In a stock setup, you can not hit shutdown and then close the lid because it will just go into sleep mode.

When I click shutdown, the system has shut down before I get a chance to close the lid anyway!
Usually Im half way through closing the lid and its shut down already.
I thought all MBP's shut down just as fast?

why not just close the lid and let it sleep?

I've often had up times of months carrying around my laptop everywhere just letting it sleep and wake it up to use it.... OSX doesn't need reboots to keep working good like some versions of Windows does.

If your going to shut down... just make sure its shut down before you do anything.. it should be decently fast unless you had it still needing to run updates.

Don't move your machine around with a DVD/CD that is spinning... if its not spinning,or the machine is asleep or off, it shouldn't be a problem.
