Currently, whenever i use Cmd+Shift+3 or 4, it creates a file in PNG format, is there a way to create it straight to JPG format?

Use preview then click menu / file /save as jpg.

It will let you choose which format you want to save it to.

You can just change the MAC's default screen capture format from PNG to JPG using a utility like C.O.C.K.T.A.I.L (without periods) This is done in the Interface/General Tab.

Or you can use a more sophisticated capture tool that can capture windows, screens, areas etc. My favorite free one is called SnapNDrag

I use ALT/option-F12. Works for me, captures a full screen and places the file onto the desktop.

i am pretty sure you can change the default format by messing around in a .plist somewhere.

Looks like you can just use a simple terminal command to change it.

here is a link to the command, and instructions. Just scroll down a bit, its just two lines of commands (copy & paste)

Alternatively, you can use Onyx, and it is in the Parameters tab.

Also I read somewhere you can use Deeper, but I have never used that program.

    Terminal:
type in your password, press return.

logout or restart, and you should have jpegs,

pngs are the way to go though.

you can also use Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+3 to copy screen shot to the clipboard.
