A router is your best option for getting Vista and OSx to play nice together, but even better is an external usb drive. Just dump all your stuff on that, and move it across, so much easier and faster.

share the stuff on the vista machine, and your mac should pick it up over the network. Might have to turn on smb sharing in the preference pane, but i dont think so.

yes get an external HDD i know i do!

    1) buy 2 external hdd.
    2) dump the files on one of the HDD, (mac will read but cant write NTFS format).
    3) plug both hdd onto your mac
    4) partition the empty one to GUID and HFS+ (journaled).
    5) move over your files to the newly partitioned drive.
    6) partition the other drive (same like above).
    7) done.

there are other solution such as creating 2 partition but for me this is the most convinient.

The best thing to do is move the compatible files, and forget the rest. You may encounter lots of problems that simply arent worth the time.

Hello all.. thanks a lot for the replies. However I want to move all my files and folders to my MB from my Vista based laptop via the Ethernet cable I got. It is the cheapest, easiest and secure option if I can sort the networking bit.

smb://DNSname/ShareName - cant find it in vista.. please help. Any detailed help about how to connect both the laptops will be a great help.. cheers

I just use external drive, copy paste everything to external drive. Import the mp3 to iTunes and photos to iPhoto.

are you connecting the ethernet directly between the computers? if so, you will need to get a crossover ethernet cable.
