So tonight I was about to watch a new promotional video, but I forgot to turn down the volume before I put my headphones in. As soon as they're plugged in, the volume jumps to 100% and I damned near blow my ear drums out.

It was simple on my DELL. Whatever volume you set it, it'd stay there despite whatever you plugged into the headphone port.

However, with OS X it seems you can set the volume to 20%, but as soon as you plug something into the headphone port, the audio will jump to a preset volume. For mine it seems to be 100%.

Where is the option to correct these? I'd rather have the defaults set to 10%...

Mine remembers different settings I have once I've set them... I have this:

    Built-in Output: about 30%
    Built-in Output (Headphones): about 60%

It seems as though when I plug in my headphones, it automatically jumps to 60% so that means it remembers the settings...

Don't know what to tell you, I just set them and they work.. Try tweaking with the sliders and with the headphones some more...

Yeah, I've noticed that too as sometimes mine would remember what my previous settings were. Than there's just sometimes when it jacks it all the way up to 100%. It's really annoying. I guess I'll have to remember to plug my headphones in, adjust the volume, than place them in my ears.

    Thanks for the reply. :)

    Okay I did some testing.

    Step 1) Volume = 100%
    Step 2) Insert Headphones
    Step 3) Volume = 50%
Step 4) Remove Headphones - success, the volume pumps back to 100%
Step 5) Insert Headphones again - succes, the volume lowers to 50%

I'm running Leopard. I can't see what OS you're running from your sig, but it seems to be working...

OS X remembers two audio settings, one for headphones, and one without. I have never had a problem with this before. Make sure you take a quick glance at the volume icon on the menu bar after you plug in your headphones, you, or someone else, might have changed the volume by accident.

*laughs* I run Leopard, cdnalsi. I suppose I'll add that to my sig.

It seems odd for mine to occasionally jump to 100% than, since I never put it at 100%. I've got so many wires going in and out of my laptop though. Hopefully they'll release a bug fix for something and it'll take care of this problem.

Thanks for the help, guys. :)
