I bought a MBP and the lid was warped right out of the box. I called Apple and they will send me a new one, but this is a major hassle.

    Just thought I'd ask.

take pictures. "warp" is subjective to a point. if you can site along the edge and see a curve in the lid..that would be a problem. This would be an issue you could raise with Apple.

If it's just not floating evenly off the laptop body.. that happens and is common. Infact mine does, and it will shift how it floats depending on where it sits... lap vs desk. There is some flex in this design.

Best I can figure it's poor design.

All the MBP at the Apple store don't close all the way on the corners.

Shotty QC or manufacturing though. There really is no excuse to not be able to work aluminum better than this.

I was inclined to agree with Eallan when I first got my MBP, but they are intentionally supposed to "float" slightly. Aluminum is a soft metal and also flexes. It's not the same as a robust and bulky plastic case. Plus, that's one of the thinnest displays you'll find..almost too thin for safety. IMO, they do an acceptable job, but I understand feeling the contrary.

I can only describe it like this.....the right side of the lid closes about flush, but the left portion of the list is raised about 3/16" and if you look at the profile of the lid...it appears to have a curvature to it.

I found it to be very displeasing and odd.

I would advise you photograph it, if possible, then call up a mac representative and explain your dissatisfaction. If they don't seem sympathetic, talk to another rep. 3/16 is on the edge of...warped. If you bought it at a brick'n'morter store... take it back and plead the case. If they refuse, call apple from the store.

p.s. I assume your notebook is resting on a flat and even surface when you observe the gap

Here's what it can look like and this is almost normal, unless it's on both sides..then it's definitely warped

    This would be extremely bad

heh.. maybe. If it makes you feel better ,why not. You can still try returning if it's clearly warped. You can also try to "bend/flex" it back to straight.. do this great with caution

I like how it says virtually invisible. You can get buttons/feet like this anywhere, probably even at the dollar store, or lowes/home depot, a craft store, and so on.

BTW, Apple is sending me a new one. I just thought those would be good for the replacement. Though, I still have to go through the whole long return process. I'm still waiting for the email from their exchange department with instructions on what to do next.
