    Hey

Got a late 2009 MBP specs are as follows:
    3.06ghz C2D Extreme?
    8GB of ram
    Glossy 1440x900 Screen
    500GB HDD
    GPU: 9400 + 9600gt

Now the only problem is: The fans run at full speed constantly + the backlit keyboard doesn't work.

UPDATE: COmpletely working fine now + brand new battery

How much would I get for this?

    Thanks!

hmm hard to say... I'll bet about 900-1000$?

it's hard to say really, personally the fan running all the time would a massive turn off for many.

first off there was never a C2D extreme in any macbook.

I would have said $7-800 USD tops realistically 5-6.5

fans running alot is not always a good sign, and a backlight repair can be pretty expensive.
and the value goes WAY down if you dont have applecare warranty to transfer with it.

The keyboard backlight not working would also be a bummer especially since thats been a feature that Apple has used for a really, really, really long time. To me, my MBP without the keyboard backlight just isn't the same.

Personally, I wouldn't pay anything over $500 for that model (assuming it is a 15") as new notebooks with much better specs can be had for only a little more than that. Then again, there are people out there who aren't afraid to spend some cash to get what they want. There are also idiots. For example, I sold my first generation wi-fi only iPad (64GB) and the $30 Apple case for $550 (cash) to someone on Craig's List just last month. The whole thing set me back by $630 and I know I would have paid a maximum of $300 for everything.

So you never truly know what you will get for something until you put it out there at a high price (though not extreme, I definitely wouldn't go above $900 as a 13" MBP with better specs goes for $999), get some nibbles, and think about decreasing it.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

Yeah I didn't think it was the extreme, but yeah at the time of this laptop coming out it was the highest possible spec and it still runs fast.

Do you think it would be worth breaking it down and selling each part seperatly?

Screen, HDD, 8GB of ram, touchpad, casing top and bottom, logic board etc etc?

Would the effort be worth it, or just sell it on craiglist?

You should make sure no fan control software is running.. and then reset the SMC... would probably take care of the fan problem, and allow you to get more money for it since that problem won't be listed.

I've tried everything (I think), I've reinstalled Mac OSX and it still isn't fixed, tried resetting SMC loads of times, tried zaping the PRAm etc.

They just dont want to work..

I would 2nd icecubez189... I would open the back cover and clean the fans and heat sinks... this could solve the fan problem if resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) doesn't solve the problem. Reseting the SMC may also solve the keyboard lighting problem...

Found out what it was, it was because I didn't have a battery in it, as soon as the battery was put back in, everything works completely fine now.

So let's say everything is working fine, there are no dents and only light cosmetic damage underneath and slightly on the corner. How much would it go for now?

    Can't see why it couldn't get 1000-$1200. I sold a 2010 15" i7 with hi-res for $1700 in February and a 13" 2010 2.4Ghz for $1100 in January with similar upgrades.

You could probably squeeze $1500 out of it. In my experiences, people are reluctant to buy older computers regardless of how good they are. Just my two cents.

However, Macs have an amazing resale value so keep that in mind.

Since there is a thread open I guess I might as well add mines. I was considering upgrading and I was wondering how much mines would sell for

    Early 2009 MBP
    2.66 C2D
    4 GB Ram
    320 5400 HD
    9400 + 9600M GT 512MB
    1440 X 900
    Applecare till 5/2012
*Non removable battery version. Couple of scratches on the bottom.

I see a lot of different prices on eBay so was wondering what my fellow head fiers thought.

Probably why that guy got no bids. I'd start at $1100/£700 and go from there. Friend of mine just bought a 2009 2.66Ghz 15" MBP with a year and a half of Apple Care left for $900, that seemed about right.

I'd list it for $1000 and go from there.

The 2009 MBPs dropped in value quite a bit once the quad cores came out, and the 2010 MBPs hit Apple's refurb store en masse. You can snag a 2010 15" i5 MBP for $1269 with 1-year warranty, brand new, so I'd use that as a barometer.

    Good luck.
