If I buy a MB today and then want to update to Leopard,

    1) Can I do that?
    2) How much do you think it'll cost?
    3) While we're at it, who here hates the MB keyboard?

3)Yes, the lack of delete key and the layout annoy me.

It should be 129 for the upgrade to Leopard, and 69 for students if they keep the same pricing as Tiger. As for the layout of the MB keyboard, I assume you are talking about the space between the keys. I have little experience, but I can tell you I don't here many complaints.

Nope, I',m talking about the feel of the keyboard. Feels really cheap, and for some reason I'm not happy when i'm typing away on it...

I like the fact that the keyboard is not noisy. I would never ever want to use the loud squeaky keyboard that I use for my desktop while out in the wild. While this desktop keyboard may be have a more tactile feel and allows me to type faster I would take the MB over this while out in the wild.

I also applaud the lack of buttons on the MB. I really, really, really hate buttons that I rarely use. All those buttons on top that are supposed to access certain programs, the numpad, etc--I'm glad that they're tucked away and happy that I can still easily access them.

    Fn+Backspace=Delete.

As for the questions of the original poster:

    1) Yes. Mac OS X versions last a while and are backwards compatible for years, you don't need to worry about that.
    2) Should be about the same as Tiger is now, 129 USD or so. As cashmonee said, much cheaper for students.
    3) I think it's something you get used to - I didn't much like it but I haven't tried it much either. I can say that the Macbook Pro keyboard is the sexiest one I've ever had though, I love it! :) Well, ok, one minor flaw - the little extra "Enter" key next to the right-hand Apple key feels silly. It's not in the way though, so I just ignore it. This might be a quirk of the UK/Irish keyboard layout however, and not in other layouts?

I like the MBP keyboard as well. Shame the laptop doesn't come in 13-14".
