Hello,
How much of the airflow is restricted when you run a 2012 MacBook Air or Retina MacBook Pro with the lid down?
It seems to generate quite a bit more heat, but I was wondering if someone had actually analyzed this and put a number on it.
Or have any of you seen a study that indicates the heat increase when the lid is down (closed)?
During the day I run several machines connected to a KVM. Most of the time the notebooks are running lid down. I'm sure this is ill advised on the Macs but I figured I'd ask the experts here.
Thanks

the heat vents differently and the machines seem to run slightly hotter. Its less pronounced on a Retina MBP though since it has side vent air intakes, but if you use them for a while like that and open it up, its still extra warm on the keyboard and screen. Just monitor the internal temps and see how they run... it should be fine, theya re designed to be able to do that. I'd suggest not pushing them to their max like that though, they need good airflow all around.
How much is the air flow restricted on lid close?
