If I get 4 GB of RAM for my new MBP, will it make any difference? I heard only certain operating systems can make use of the RAM..is this true? If so, does Leopard allow the CPU to utilize the 4 gigs? I don't really know that much about computers so if someone could explain this to me I would appreciate it. Thanks

4GB of ram will only make any difference if you actually use it. If you are using the MBP for general use, you probably won't see a increase because nothing is taxing enough to actually require more memory. However, if you are editing 19,000 x 9500 pixel works in photoshop then you will see an improvement.

Im not familliar with OS X, so if it is 64-bit, then you can have 4GB, if 32-bit, itll only use 3GB of it. You probably wont see a difference unless you do alot of Multi-Tasking.

OS X Leopard is 64bit. I'm glad I went with 4GB, especially when running VMWare Windows XP.

Also - Whatever you do, DO NOT buy ram upgrades directly from apple or you will be ripped off. You basically pay an 500% markup because it is "apple certified"

Buy it from Macsales.com or Newegg.com (With newegg, you have the option of using regular PC ram and saving $10-15).

ahl395: Mac OS X is 64-bit. I've got 6GB in my Mac Pro tower running 10.5, and it'll gladly support another 24GB if I wanted it to.

Stone825: All manufactures will rip you off. Try buying it from Dell or HP as well, they all mark it up.

Koralan: With as cheap as 4GB will be, it is well worth it to upgrade. The more RAM you have, the more Applications have to use, so the faster it will be. You'll have faster boot-up times, and faster launch times with most apps.

    I'd say do it!

I have 4gb in my MBP and I love it. Gameing performance is increased slightly and my programs open faster and load faster etc since the system has extra ram to play with.

I dont see a reason for not getting it...I paid $75.00 at newegg for 4 GB of Kingston pc5300 and it works great. Cant beat it for $75...too bad I couldnt configure my MBP with no ram and just add my own lol.
