Hello, I am considering buying a Mac towards the end of May, Early June, and I was wondering how the mouse was, I never actually used a Mac Myself but i heard from other people their opinions on the mouse. Could I get some clarification on how the mouse actually is?

If you are referring to the Mighty Mouse, stay as far away as possible and just buy your preferred PC mouse. If you are talking about the touchpad, I find it vastly superior to the normal PC touchpad because of two-finger scrolling.

You're worried about the single mouse button? Don't be. Tapping with two fingers on the trackpad will simulate a right click. Two finger dragging scrolls, which is much nicer than the scroll region you'll find on PC notebooks.

If you simply cannot get used to it, you can always use an external mouse... they all work just fine under OS X.

Trust me, I adapted to a single button mouse, and I come from a linux/unix background where 3 buttons has always been the minimum.

Some PC notebooks offer two fingered scrolling as well (a third button on the keypad is pressed in tandem with a TrackPoint in the center of the keyboard).

But I've used the two fingered right-click in OS X--it's pretty cool, and fun just to do it. (Of course as with any neural network trackpad, the fingers must be warm.)

I will say for the mighty mouse, that scroll ball is sweet. I was tooling around on a demo 24" iMac today at Best Buy (good lord that thing is HUGE,) and the ball beats the crap out of the tilt/scroll wheel on my Logitech v450.

Yeah, the scroll ball is kinda neat... Right clicking with it takes some getting used to though. You have to keep your index finger off the mouse body, otherwise it often registers as a left click anyway.

Yes, the 24" iMac does block out the sun... ;)

it is pretty easy to get used to the one button mice apple loves so much. They are really dead set on there design it seems.

Honestly using OSX with a right click is much much more efficient, but obviously you can use any mouse you want.

Honestly if I went and bought a Mac Pro or iMac or Mac Mini right now I would probably just use the mighty mouse that comes with it, because I have used them enough and using them for many things is pretty straightforward.

The two finger for a right click eventually becomes easy and takes no effort to do once you get used to it (and you will pretty quickly). I bought a bluetooth mighty mouse. At first I loved it because of the 360 scrolling ball and the bluetooth feature but it is VERY TERRIBLY DESIGNED. It puts my hand in a weird posture and is quite uncomfortable. Also, to right click, you have to make sure you dont have a finger on the left side of the mouse but that's not a really big issue.

The 360 scroll ball is what if find annoying. You adapt quickly to the lift finger for right click, but I absoutly don't like the scroll ball. The feedback was IMO awful, and when you want to scroll, it either didn't scroll enough or went to fast. I don't remember if you can click it. If you can't, that's another strike (for me). Plus, i didn't like using it in call of duty 2. It is fairly purrty though.

It's really a personal preference thing, some people love it, some people hate it..For me well at first i hated it so much i went back to my old pc mouse, but i still used it when i went to cafe's cause it looks nice. However after a while of using it i actualy started to like it more and more and now its the only moulse i use.

I think it's worth pointing out that OSX is also designed so that you don't often need a second mouse button anyway. As others have pointed out, the touchpad on MacBooks beats the tar out of any other touchpad solely in virtue of the two-finger scrolling feature (that said, I still think the ThinkPad-style trackpad is the best "mouse" for a laptop ever, but these are really going out of style).

I don't know about that, people saying OSX is designed to be used with a single button mouse. Windows can be used just as easily with a single button mouse, and both OS's can be much more efficiently used with a multiple button mouse, especially when getting into the higher end programs.

I would really love to hear Apple's reasoning on why the single button mouse.

I think it has to do with Apple's philosophy of always keeping it from being too technical and just simplifying as much as possible.

I agree... I LOVE the trackpad with single button. It's a god send. so much better than any other trackpad I've used.

It just happens to be a bit too big (for my tastes) if you uncheck the option to prevent accidental touches.

FIY, Macs old way of right clicking was to hold the mouse button down for a second and it would act as a right click or apple click. I can't agree with Circa that Windows is easily used with a single button. I've tried. It's a pain in the ass. It's easier to use with no mouse than a single button mouse.
