I read on this site that Apple has corrected the problem with the palm discoloration in the newer macbooks... I might be exchanging a defective HP for a Macbook tomorrow at Future Shop (aka Bestbuy Canada), how do I know if I have the newer one or the older?

you can't, and there are still heat problems with mac, did you see the artical early this morning when the Macbook exploded!!!

well in short i would not suggest getting a macbook but try another HP, you probalbly just got a dud, but look at other computers at future shop they have a good selection -
Hmm.. kinda funny with the recommendation for notebook coolers for macbooks. Macbooks design r so clean, they put the intake and exhaust at the same place of the macbook. How r u gonna use a normal cooler(which blows air from below) to cool the macbook, when the intake is at the rear of the macbook. R there any macbook cooling pads out there?

My suggestion would be to tell them you want the newest serial they have. The way to tell is simple:
The first letter and number are where it was made. The next number is the year (6) the next two are the week. Those two are the important ones. You want the highest number obviously. -
Hey guys... I ended up going to the FS only to find out they only had 1 macbook, like they said on the phone, but it was a floor display, which they didn't mention.
I also didn't realize that the base macbook doesn't have a DVD burner.
I ended up switching the HP for a Toshiba with pretty much the same specs but for 300$ less... this one is built a lot more solidly than the HP and now I have 300 in credit to spend on accessories. -
It was the 27th I believe of June that Apple officially acknowledged the palm discoloration issue as a problem with the white macbooks and stated any macbooks shipped after the 27th of June will have the new plastic that replaced it. I ordered my Macbook on the 27th so I'm pretty safe from it, but it still didn't stop me from getting the invisishield for my notebook.
Oh and yes, my white macbook is still not showing any signs of discoloration.
How do you know if you have the older Macbook?
