Well my MBP is currently at a chilly 33 degrees celcius but a loud 6000 rpm. They won't respond to SMC fan control and for some reason seem to really like spinning that fast

Try deactivating SMC fan control. If that doesn't work try a restart. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to say besides: call Apple.

I would let Apple know as this is definitely not normal, Arquis couldn't have said it better.

36c??? id like to see a screenshot of that :)

try to reset your PRAM, it does wonders on things like this.

other than that, i cant imagine WHY if your cpu is so low the fan is even anything above idle speeds. the fan should de-rpm around 60 and continue to fall the lower the cpu temp gets.

Yeah, try reinstalling SMCFanControl. I remember the first time I installed it, it didn't work, then the second time around it works fine now.

Ive tried reinstalling SMC fancontrol and that didn't work. I also reformatted my HDD and reinstalled leopard and that didn't help (I've already tried resetting the pram a dozen times). Also it seems to randomly spin the fans all the way up and when it does it may power off or go to sleep mode. Now I'm thinking that some thermal protection system is being tripped when it shouldn't. However I'm no where near the 90+ degrees celcius that would cause a shutdown :(. Although its been running without problems at a happy 2k rpm for about 3 hrs now. This problem seems to occur pretty randomly .
